Mechanisms of alcohol influence on fear conditioning: A computational model

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Computational models can test mechanistic relationships between fear conditioning, neuroadaptations, and alcohol. Simulated fear extinction is slower and less robust under alcohol, as greater basolateral amygdala activation is needed. Alcohol shifts the amygdala network away from robust extinction by inhibiting central amygdala activity.
