Trochanteric osteotomy in revision total hip arthroplasty

open access: yesEFORT Open Reviews, 2020
Trochanteric osteotomy is a technique that allows expanded exposure and access to the femoral canal and acetabulum for a number of indications. There has been renewed interest in variants of this technique, including the trochanteric slide osteotomy (TSO), extended trochanter osteotomy (ETO), and the transfemoral approach, for both septic and aseptic ...

Ureaplasma urealyticum infection in total hip arthroplasty leading to revision

open access: yes, 2010
We describe an infection with Ureaplasma urealyticum causing rapid loosening of a cemented total hip arthroplasty. When reviewing the literature we found that no such case has been reported previously.

A retrospective cohort study comparing periodontal regeneration using fibroblast growth factor‐2 versus autologous bone graft

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Fibroblast growth factor‐2 (FGF‐2) is a novel agent utilized in periodontal regeneration therapy. However, its clinical efficacy compared with autologous bone graft (ABG), a long‐established treatment, remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of FGF‐2 and ABG and to assess the impact of patient background ...

Tranexamic Acid in Lower Extremity Endoprosthetic Reconstruction for Oncologic Indications: A Retrospective Comparative Study of 617 Patients

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives While tranexamic acid (TXA) reduces blood loss in orthopedic surgery, thromboembolic concerns in cancer patients have limited adoption in orthopedic oncology. This study evaluated TXA efficacy and safety in patients undergoing endoprosthetic reconstruction for oncologic indications.

Prosthetic femoral head erosion through an acetabular component treated with revision and implant preservation

open access: yesArthroplasty Today, 2020
We present a case report of the rare complication of a femoral head prosthesis eroding through the acetabular liner and shell resulting in a clinical presentation of pseudo-dislocation. The patient presented with a 1-month history of progressive anterior

Early death following revision total hip arthroplasty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
IntroductionThe frequency of primary total hip arthroplasty procedures is increasing, with a subsequent rise in revision procedures. This study aims to describe timing and surgical mortality associated with revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) compared ...

Elective Surgical Care Pathways Are Associated With Lower Fracture Rates at Presentation and Contribute to Superior Clinical Outcomes in Metastatic Bone Disease

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Metastatic bone disease (MBD) often necessitates orthopaedic surgical intervention, which occurs through either emergent or elective care pathways. This study compared post‐operative outcomes between patients undergoing elective versus emergent surgery for MBD involving the pelvis and appendicular skeleton. Methods We

Dynamic coronal plane knee alignment: Femoral anatomy determines kinematic curve morphology, tibial anatomy determines curve position

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose A single hip–knee–ankle angle (HKA) angle does not reflect the biomechanics of native, arthritic or prosthetic knees. Since HKA varies throughout flexion, dynamic coronal alignment is best represented by a kinematic curve plotting HKA against the range of motion.
