Facial Pore Severity Is Associated With Age, Smoking Status and Tanning Bed Use: Results From a Large Dutch Population‐Based Cohort

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Photographs of participants of the Rotterdam Study were cross‐sectionally assessed on facial pore appearance severity. Moderate (grade three) facial pores were most prevalent. More severe facial pore appearance was associated with current and former smoking and excessive indoor tanning.

GelCam: Visualizing sinking particle flux via a polyacrylamide gel‐based sediment trap

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Sinking particles play a key role in the biological carbon pump. While previous studies have analyzed particulate carbon flux over timescales of days to years, few have been able to resolve flux variability on shorter, hourly scales at multiple depths simultaneously.

Higher Speed Multispectral Imaging Using a Thin Liquid Crystal Layer in Metal Cavity and Artificial Intelligence Reconstruction Algorithm

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A rapid multispectral imaging system is presented that integrates a 4 µm‐thick liquid crystal spectral modulator in a metal–insulator–metal (MIM) configuration with a multi‐bandpass filter (MBF). Coupled with a custom AI‐based reconstruction algorithm, the system enables accurate food quality monitoring and demonstrates the potential to capture a ...

Compact Spectral Imaging: A Review of Miniaturized and Integrated Systems

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This review explores the rapid shift toward compact spectral imaging systems by examining four key design paradigms: Do‐It‐Yourself (DIY) platforms, freeform optics, filter‐on‐chip integration, and multifunctional metasurfaces. The discussion highlights critical applications in medicine, agriculture, and environmental monitoring, providing comparative ...

Enhancing Realism in Holographic Augmented Reality Displays Through Occlusion Handling

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The proposed optical‐see‐through holographic AR display with occlusion support presents highly realistic 3D AR scenes by projecting speckle‐suppressed, high‐contrast 3D holographic virtual images onto the corresponding real‐scene masks. By leveraging the occlusion capability, virtual shadows based on a Poisson distribution can also be rendered for the ...
