In orchards, in cases where the insect pests are concentrated under the canopy, entomopathogenic nematodes can be applied as infected host cadavers. This study evaluated the distribution of Heterorhabditis baujardi Phan, Subbotin, Nguyen & Moens strain LPP7 applied as one or 15 host cadavers per plot in a guava orchard.

Specimens of the African snail Achatina fulica, collected in Bucaramanga, Colombia, were examined for parasites. Numerous specimens of Caenorhabditis briggsae were collected from the digestive tract of the snails and identified by the structure of male spiculum, caudal bursa, gubernaculum and precloacal lip in males, triangular tooth in metarhabdion ...

This study investigated the possible biological, biochemical and histological changes in Bradybaena similaris(Gastropoda: Pulmonata) infected by Heterorhabditis indica (Rhabditida: Heterorhabditidae), strain LPP1. Two groups of 16 snails were formed: the control group (unexposed) and the treated group, which was exposed for three weeks to infective ...

Abstract In Brazil, the sugarcane billbug Sphenophorus levis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) bores sugarcane rhizomes in its larval stage, causing high losses to the crop. Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) of the genera Heterorhabditis and Steinernema (Nematoda: Rhabditidae) could be applied in the sugarcane fields to control the larvae and pupae of S ...

Third-instar larvae of Musca domestica, Ophyra aenescens, Fannia canicularis , and Fannia femoralis were exposed to parasitic nematodes in the laboratory. Four strains of Steinernema feltiae , two of Steinernema bibionis , and one of Heterorhabditis heliothidis were tested on moist filter paper in petri dishes.

The effect of different doses 5, 10, 15, 30, 40 and 50 KR of gamma irradiation on the infectivity ofSteinernema feltiae Filipjev nematode has been studied. It was found thatS. feltiae was inactivated by gamma irradiation. Motility of nematodes as well as the mortality and infestation intensity of the host decreased at the higher doses.

Certain slug species are considered agricultural and horticultural pests worldwide. Nematodes offer a potential solution as biocontrol agents in controlling slug populations due to their natural associations with terrestrial gastropods. In some cases, they provide higher specificity and more efficient pest management outputs than many chemical or ...

A laboratory-based study was performed in order to assess the infestation capacity of the mosquito parasite nematode Romanomermis iyengari Welch, on Anopheles nuneztovari Gabaldón and Aedes aegypti L. For each mosquito species, nine hundred (900) I to III instars larvae were taken. These larvae were infested with pre-parasitic larvae of R.
