Hematological, morphological, biochemical and hydromineral responses in Rhamdia quelen sedated with propofol

Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2014
Rhamdia quelen morphophysiological responses to propofol sedation were examined. The purpose was to investigate whether propofol would be a suitable drug to be used in fish transport procedures. Fish were exposed to 0, 0.4 or 0.8 mg L(-1) propofol for 1, 6 or 12 h in 40 L tanks, simulating open transport systems.

Roundup Effects on Oxidative Stress Parameters and Recovery Pattern of Rhamdia quelen

Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2010
Antioxidant enzymes and oxidative stress indicators were evaluated in fish exposed to different concentrations of the herbicide Roundup 48% (Monsanto, St. Louis, MO): control (none), 0.45, or 0.95 mg/l. After exposure for 8 days to herbicide, fish were transferred to clean water for a recovery response period (also 8 days).

Innate immune response of silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) exposed to atrazine

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2012
The impact of agrichemicals on aquatic vertebrate species has been a matter of increasing concern to researchers and environmentalist. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of a sublethal concentration of atrazine (10% of the LC(50-96 h)), a world-wide used herbicide, on the innate immune system of silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen).

Exposure to different glyphosate formulations on the oxidative and histological status of Rhamdia quelen

Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2015
Due to the wide use of glyphosate (GLY) in soybean cultivation, their residues in the environment may affect non-target organisms such as fish, developing toxic effects. Despite GLY being widely used in Brazil, there are few studies comparing the effects of commercial formulations in native freshwater fish species.

Intraspecific chromosome analysis in Rhamdia quelen (Siluriformes, Heptapteridae)

2010
We studied the chromosomes of Rhamdia quelen. All specimens presented 2n = 58 and 36m+16sm+6st and FN = 116 and showed metacentric B chromosomes of medium size. The specimens from Água dos Patos river, Água das Pedras river and fish farm station showed a secondary constriction in the short arm of pair 28 (st), coincident with the NOR, while in the ...

Cryopreserved sperm does not affect larval ontogeny and quality in Rhamdia quelen

Fish Physiology and Biochemistry
Fish sperm cryopreservation is an important technique for optimizing juvenile production in aquaculture stations and laboratories and contributing to the conservation of endangered species. Despite its benefits, the cryopreservation process can cause cellular damage, affecting spermatozoa quality and offspring viability.
