Age and phenology control photosynthesis and leaf traits in the understory woody species, Rhamnus cathartica and Prunus serotina [PDF]

open access: yesAoB Plants, 2022
Understory plants are often inadequately represented or neglected within analyses of forest ecosystem productivity. Further, the potential impacts of the biological factors of age class and growth form on carbon cycling physiology, and how it may vary ...

Cytotoxicity and Anti-Plasmodium berghei Activity of Emodin Loaded Nanoemulsion [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Parasitology, 2022
Background: Malaria parasites cause a tremendous burden of disease in both the tropics and subtropics areas. Growing of drugs resistance in parasites is one of the most threats to malaria control.

Monitoring the Spread of Grapevine Viruses in Vineyards of Contrasting Agronomic Practices: A Metagenomic Investigation [PDF]

open access: yesBiology, 2023
This study investigated the transmission of grapevine viruses, specifically grapevine red blotch virus (GRBV) and grapevine Pinot gris virus (GPGV), in vineyards in Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada.

Vegetation and Environmental Changes on Contaminated Soil Formed on Waste from an Historic Zn-Pb Ore-Washing Plant [PDF]

open access: yesBiology, 2021
Post-mining waste from Zn-Pb ore exploitation undergoes processes of spontaneous succession and changes in soil chemical composition. The Zakawie area was industrially transformed by historical mining activity, ore enrichment, and the metallurgical ...

Individual variation underlies large‐scale patterns: Host conditions and behavior affect parasitism [PDF]

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Identifying the factors that affect host–parasite interactions is essential for understanding the ecology and dynamics of vector‐borne diseases and may be an important component of predicting human disease risk. Characteristics of hosts themselves (e.g., body condition, host behavior, immune defenses) may affect the likelihood of parasitism ...

Unveiling Heterospecific Pollen Deposition in Ranunculus Plants Along a Land‐Use Gradient Through DNA Metabarcoding [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
We used DNA metabarcoding to explore heterospecific pollen transfer to three Ranunculus species in semi‐natural and agricultural landscapes across a land‐use intensity gradient. Our results show that flowering plant diversity significantly influences the diversity of pollen deposited on plant stigmas, with intermediate plant species landscapes ...

Ecology and ecosystem impacts of common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica): a review [PDF]

open access: yesBiological Invasions, 2007
In this review, we synthesize the current knowledge of the ecology and impacts of Rhamnus cathartica L., a shrub from Europe and Asia that is a successful invader in North America. Physiological studies have uncovered traits including shade tolerance, rapid growth, high photosynthetic rates, a wide tolerance of moisture and drought, and an unusual ...

Half a Century of Temperate Non‐Forest Vegetation Changes: No Net Loss in Species Richness, but Considerable Shifts in Taxonomic and Functional Composition [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 1, January 2025.
We present a comprehensive, large‐scale analysis of long‐term changes in plant communities of various non‐forest habitat types in the Czech Republic based on repeatedly sampled vegetation plots. Species richness of most habitat types increased over time, and taxonomic and functional community composition shifted significantly.

Pest categorisation of Monema flavescens [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 22, Issue 7, July 2024.
Abstract The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of Monema flavescens (Lepidoptera, Limacodidae), following the commodity risk assessment of Acer palmatum plants grafted on A. davidii from China, in which M. flavescens was identified as a pest of possible concern to the European Union.
