Meta Alkali Basaltic Volcanics do Occur in the Palaeozoic of the Rhenish Mountains
1987A spilitic dolerite sill is described from Wasenbach valley at the southwestern end of the Lahn syncline in the southern Rhenish Mountains. The emplacement of the sill was guided by a smaller previously intruded sill which forms together with its contact zone the roof of the larger intrusion.

Review of Palaeobotany and Palynology, 1988Abstract Remains of land-plants have been found in parautochthonous position in volcaniclastic sediments of the Middle Devonian of the Lahn syncline (Rhenish Mountains). These sediments resulted from the interaction of volcanic activity, littoral erosion and reef building.

The isochronous, mid-Brigantian (latest Visean) Actinopteria Black Shale is intercalated in between upper Visean calciturbidites within the northern part of the Rhenish Mountains (Germany). It shows characteristic mass-occurrences of the eponymous bivalve Ptychopteria (Actinopteria) lepida (Goldfuss).

The ammonoids from the middle Famennian black limestone nodules at Kattensiepen (Rhenish Mountains) are known for their excellent preservation and show frequent sublethal shell damage of varying dimensions and of the finest detail. 76% of all specimens show traces of predation.

Since the Oligocene, the Hunsriick was uplifted about 200–250 m, in relation to the Rheinhessen Plateau (Mayence Basin), and tilted southwards with amounts of up to 50 m. The plateau uplift includes parts of the Saar-Nahe Basin. The quaternary partial uplift does not exceed 40–50 m.
