Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Study of the influence of pulse heating on the structure and properties of reinforcing fibers from tungsten-rhenium alloys

open access: yesJournal of Alloys and Metallurgical Systems
Improvement of the design of modern heat engines is characterized by expanding the use of heat-resistant fiber composites. The component that largely determines the strength and technological properties of the composite is the fibers.

Frailty Predicts Incident Osteoporotic Fractures in Veterans with Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Background/Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with an increased risk of frailty and osteoporosis, but the relationship between frailty and incident osteoporotic fractures in RA is underexplored. Methods Data were from the Veterans Affairs Rheumatoid Arthritis (VARA) Registry.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Rhenium-Catalyzed Regioselective ortho-Alkenylation and [3 + 2 + 1] Cycloaddition of Phenols with Internal Alkynes

open access: yes, 2019
An operationally simple and direct rhenium-catalyzed ortho-alkenylation (C-alkenylation) of unprotected phenols with alkynes was developed. The protocol provided ortho-alkenylphenols exclusively, and formation of para- or multiply alkenylated phenols and

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...
