The Rhesus factor

The Rhesus factor (Rh) is an antigen capable of stimulating the production of antibodies if introduced into an individual whose organism does not normally contain it. It is present as a normal constituent in the blood and other cells of about 80 per cent of Europeans, who are described as Rhesus positive.
