If the proposal is not accepted, they will not be able to present their paper, and thus may not be able to get funds to attend the conference. Western Journal of Communication, 2008Although not the first, the theory of invitational rhetoric offers a significant challenge to a strict definition of rhetoric as persuasion. Invitational rhetoric's link to feminism, paring of persuasion with violence, and the polysemic nature of theory, generated both interest and critique.

In the first period, sales qingshi (requests raised by subordi nates), sales pifu (official replies), and sales tongzhi (circulars) were used.

Managerial elites making rhetorical and linguistic ‘moves’ for a moving (emotional) display
Human Relations, 2004This article contributes to sociological studies of emotions in organizations. It resides upon an innovative move to extend the ethnographic approach to include audio-recording, in this case managerial elites’ naturally occurring interactions, to provide the basis for an ‘empirical filling out’ of emotions research.
