Antiproliferative activity and new argininyl bufadienolide esters from the “cururú” toad Rhinella (Bufo) schneideri

open access: yesJournal of Ethnopharmacology, 2014
Toads known as "cururú" (Rhinella schneideri) have been used in the Brazilian Pantanal and Paraguayan Chaco wetlands to treat erysipelas and cancer. The aim of the study was to assess the antiproliferative effect of the venom obtained from Rhinella schneideri and to identify its constituents by spectroscopic and spectrometric methods. The venom was ...

Proteins from the Rhinella schneideri parotoid gland secretion exhibit anti-nociceptive effect against nociception induced by inflammation

open access: yesBiomedicine and Pharmacotherapy, 2017
As proteins isolated from the Rhinella schneideri parotoid gland secretion (RsPP) exhibit anti-inflammatory activity, the goal of this work was to investigate their anti-nociceptive effects using acetic acid-induced writhing, formalin, and hot-plate tests.

Orexin in the toad Rhinella schneideri: The location of orexinergic neurons and the role of orexin in ventilatory responses to hypercarbia and hypoxia

Respiratory Physiology & Neurobiology, 2016
Recent reports have suggested that orexins, also known as hypocretins, play an important role in the modulation of respiratory control in mammals, but there are no data available describing the role of the orexinergic system in the peripheral and central chemoreception of non-mammalian vertebrates.

Biochemical Profile, Biological Activities, and Toxic Effects of Proteins in the Rhinella schneideri Parotoid Gland Secretion

Journal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological Genetics and Physiology, 2016
ABSTRACTParotoid glands of amphibians are known for the production of several biologically active compounds having pharmacological and toxic effects in mammals. In the present work, a protein fraction obtained from Rhinella schneideri parotoid gland (RsPP) was characterized to study its biological and toxic effects.

Development of an insecticide prototype using the secretions on the parotoides glands of Rhinella schneideri toad

2023
