Temperature‐Controlled Radiofrequency Treatment of the Nasal Valve in Patients With Nasal Obstruction: Long‐Term Outcomes

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Volume 172, Issue 4, Page 1214-1223, April 2025.
Abstract Objective To evaluate the efficacy, safety, and durability of temperature‐controlled radiofrequency (TCRF) treatment of the nasal valve in patients with severe or extreme nasal airway obstruction (NAO). Study Design A long‐term, prospective, multicenter, single‐blind, randomized controlled trial.

The effect of allergen immunotherapy in patients with central compartment atopic disease post‐surgery

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, Volume 15, Issue 2, Page 128-134, February 2025.
Abstract Objective To assess the effect of allergen immunotherapy (AIT) on patients with central compartment atopic disease (CCAD) and house dust mite (HDM) sensitization post‐surgery. Methods A retrospective cohort of surgically treated, HDM‐sensitized CRSwNP patients phenotyped as CCAD was assessed.

Exploring the impact of adenoid obstruction on the human nasal airflow through parallel computational fluid dynamics

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2025.
We investigated the impact of adenoid obstruction on human nasal airflow using computational fluid simulations. By developing a realistic nasal cavity model and employing advanced numerical methods, the study demonstrates that obstruction levels below 50% minimally affect airflow, while noticeable changes occur beyond this threshold.

Exploring the Relationships Between Clinical Examination Findings, Subjective Reported Symptoms and Objective Nasal Patency Measures in Nasal Obstruction: A Baseline NAIROS Sub‐Study Analysis

open access: yesClinical Otolaryngology, Volume 50, Issue 1, Page 22-30, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Background The role of objective nasal airflow measures using peak nasal inspiratory flow (PNIF) and rhinospirometry in supporting clinical examination findings when offering patients septoplasty remain undefined. Objective To explore the baseline relationships between clinical examination findings, subjective reported symptoms and objective ...

Assessing nasal airway resistance and symmetry: An approach to global perspective through computational fluid dynamics

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 7, July 2024.
Our study found no significant sex‐based differences in nasal resistance (R) across studied populations, but a moderate sexual dimorphism in nasal flow asymmetry (ϕ) was noted among Cambodians. There were no geographical variations in R or ϕ parameters, indicating uniform nasal airflow characteristics globally.

Pediatric Inferior Turbinate Hypertrophy: Diagnosis and Management. A YO‐IFOS Consensus Statement

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 134, Issue 3, Page 1437-1444, March 2024.
This article presents a clinical consensus statement aimed at providing a diagnosis and management framework for pediatric inferior turbinate hypertrophy (PedTH), a frequently overlooked cause of nasal breathing difficulties in children. The statement was developed by a panel of 20 contributors from 5 different European and North American countries ...

Assessment of nasal resistance using computational fluid dynamics

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2016
Anterior rhinomanometry is the current gold standard for the objective assessment of nasal breathing by determining the nasal resistance. However, computational fluid dynamics would allow spatially and temporally well- resolved investigation of ...
