Potential mechanisms implied in tick infection by arboviruses and their transmission to vertebrate hosts

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, Volume 20, Issue 2, Page 315-330, March 2025.
We summarize the recent progress in understanding defense mechanisms in specific tissues or sites that are encountered by arboviruses and discuss their possible roles in virus infection or transmission. Abstract Ticks can transmit many pathogens, including arboviruses, to their vertebrate hosts.

Viral diversity of Rhipicephalus microplus parasitizing cattle in southern Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
AbstractTicks are ectoparasites spread worldwide and are well known as vectors of many viruses of great importance to human and animal health. However, the viral diversity in ticks is still poorly understood, particularly in South America. Here we characterized the viral diversity present in Rhipicephalus microplus parasitizing cattle in the southern ...

Participatory surveillance reveals marsh deer mortality event during an extraordinary flood in Ibera Wetlands, Argentina

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2025.
Abstract Mortality events of marsh deer (Blastocerus dichotomus) have been historically described in the southern margins of its geographical range. Few documented cases show how environmental changes and pathogens interact to trigger mortality scenarios and reveal their causes.

A new mutation in the octopamine receptor associated with amitraz resistance in Varroa destructor

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 1, Page 308-315, January 2025.
A new mutation (F290L) in the octopamine β2 receptor of Varroa destructor mites from Spanish apiaries has been identified. The L290 allele frequency increased with repeated amitraz treatments. Mutant mites showed lower susceptibility to amitraz. Abstract BACKGROUND The acaricide amitraz is now used intensively in many regions to control the honey bee ...

Evaluation in vitro of the infection times of engorged females of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus by the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema glaseri CCA strain Avaliação in vitro dos tempos de infecção de fêmeas ingurgitadas de Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus pelo nematoide entomopatogênico Steinernema glaseri estirpe CCA

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2010
Studies have shown that ticks are susceptible to infection by entomopathogenic nematodes. These studies indicate different susceptibilities of ticks to infection by these fungi, depending on the tick species, development phase, entomopathogenic nematodes
