Anchoring and Root Architecture Influence Hydro‐Morphodynamic Mechanisms of Dislodgement in Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) Seedlings

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract This study isolated hydro‐morphodynamic mechanisms leading to mangrove propagule anchoring and seedling dislodgement under erosive flows. Red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) propagules self‐anchored in estuarine sediments over 112 days under simulated tidal pulses.

Optimizing Total Suspended Solids Mitigation in a Data‐Limited Watershed: A Network‐Based Advection–Reaction Model Applied to the Canal del Dique, Colombia

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Total Suspended Solids (TSS) significantly degrade water quality by reducing light penetration and oxygen availability, while facilitating the transport of toxic contaminants. Managing TSS in watersheds requires an understanding of both hydrological connectivity and pollutant dynamics; however, these efforts are significantly constrained by ...

Removal of Chemical Oxygen Demand in Brackish Water by Rhizophora mucronata using Reed Bed System Batch Reactor [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
River pollution can cause coastal pollution due to many pollutants can not remove during water flow from upstream to downstream. River has a capability to do self purification to remediate many pollutans, but wastewater disposal occurred at along the ...

Population Genetic Structure and Colonisation History of the Widely Distributed Mangrove Avicennia marina Across the Western Indian Ocean

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 32, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Avicennia marina is a widely distributed mangrove species and a major constituent of Indo‐West Pacific mangroves. To understand spatial patterns of genetic diversity in this species, and the role of ocean currents and historical events in shaping these patterns, we examined population genetic structure, maternal phylogeography, and ...

Trait‐based evidence of salinity‐induced functional diversity loss in mangroves: Implications for ecosystem resilience

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Mangrove forests—vital for global carbon storage and coastal protection—are increasingly threatened by salinity intrusion resulting from sea‐level rise and alterations in the hydrological regimes. While the functional importance of mangroves is well recognized, the mechanistic pathways through which salinity reorganizes community‐level trait ...

Seasonal Litter Production in Various Mangrove Species on the Coast of West Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi

open access: yesJurnal Ilmu Pertanian Indonesia, 2020
Mangrove litter production is important in the displacement of organic matter from mangrove vegetation to water such as in the coast of West Muna Regency. However, one factor influencing it is the frequency of rainfall.

DISTRIBUTIONAL PATTERNS OF FLORA SPECIES IN RESPONSE TO SALINITY GRADIENTS IN A PALUSTRINE WETLAND [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironment & Ecosystem Science, 2019
This study investigated the distributional patterns of species in response to salinity gradients. The vegetation was systematically sampled using a quadrat of 50 x 10 m. Vegetation variables were measured.

21st‐Century Mangrove Expansion Along the Southeastern United States

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 1, January 2026.
Global warming is driving poleward range shifts worldwide, including the northward expansion of tropical mangroves along the Atlantic coast of North America. In this region, warming winters are enabling mangroves to encroach into salt marsh–dominated temperate latitudes, potentially transforming wetland ecosystem function and services. To assess future
