Triterpenoids from the stem bark ofRhizophora mucronata

Three triterpenoids from the chloroform extract of the stem bark of Rhizophora mucronata (Rhizophoraceae) were isolated. The structures of these isolated compounds were identified by spectroscopic analysis as 3beta-O-(E)-(4-methoxy) cinnamoyl-15 alpha-hydroxyl beta-amyrin (1), adian-5-en 3-ol (2) and lupeol (3).

Tannin properties of rhizophora mucronata barks of different ages

Laboratory investigation of bark extract from different age groups of Rhizophora mucronata (bakau kurap) showed that the tannin extract of barks of 40 years old trees had high reactivity towards formaldehyde as indicated by its stiasny number of 72.
