SYSTEMATICS OF THE BATRACHOSPERMALES (RHODOPHYTA)—A SYNTHESIS1
Journal of Phycology, 2009Recent molecular and morphological data necessitate a major taxonomic revision of the Batrachospermales, an order of red algae, distributed in freshwater habitats throughout the world. This article is a synthesis of available information with some targeted additional sequence data, resulting in a few relatively conservative taxonomic changes to begin ...

On the phylogenetic relationships of the Acrochaetiaceae (Rhodophyta)
British Phycological Journal, 1978Five phylogenetic schemes are presented for the Acrochaetiaceae based on comparative morphology and ultrastructure. The relationships between the possible phylogenetic relatives of the family and the taxonomic rank at which the group can be recognized are discussed.

RECENT RADIATION OF THE PALMARIACEAE (RHODOPHYTA)1
Journal of Phycology, 1996ABSTRACTMolecular phylogenetic studies on the evolution of the red algae indicate that this ancient division has many lineages that have recently undergone radiations. One such example is the cold–temperate family Palmariaceae. In this study, sequences from the ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer regions were compared among ten species in the ...

The Helminthocladiaceae (Rhodophyta) of Southern Australia
Australian Journal of Botany, 1965The southern Australian Helminthocladiaceae, comprising Nemalion (one species), Helminthora (two species, including H. lindaueri from New Zealand), Helminthocladia (four species, with H. beaugleholei sp. nov. and H. dotyi sp. nov.), and Liagora (four species, with L. codii sp. nov.) are described in detail.

Abstract Lithothrix aspergillum, a coralline red alga, was studied from 1976 to 1980 in the Strait of Georgia, British Columbia, Canada. Cover of L. aspergillum, Sargassum muticum, and Neorhodomela larix was monitored in control quadrats and in sites scraped in May of 1976 and 1978. L. aspergillum maintained a significantly lower, and N.

The distribution of Rhodophyta in streams of Central Mexico
Algological Studies/Archiv für Hydrobiologie, Supplement Volumes, 2004The distribution of species of Rhodophyta was investigated in 424 stream segments, sampled from 1981–1999 in three river basins from central Mexico. Red algae occurred in 12% of the stream segments sampled, a low frequency compared to major surveys in other parts of the world (18–65%).

The genus Batrachospermum (Rhodophyta) in ex-Yugoslavija
Algological Studies/Archiv für Hydrobiologie, Supplement Volumes, 2002Investigation of freshwater red algae on the territory of ex-Yugoslavia shows that the genus Batrachospermum is represented by 10 species. Species B. helmintosum BORY and B. virgato-decaisneanum SIRODOT are recorded for the first time in the flora of ex-Yugoslavia.

Is the frequency of apomeiosis in the Rhodophyta a genetic character?
Hydrobiologia, 1987The small rhodophyte Antithamnionella sarniensis Lyle (Ceramiaceae), a very common species on the Atlantic coast of France, has a normal Polysiphonia-like life cycle (Sundene, 1964), but some tetraspores can give new tetrasporophytes directly (L’Hardy-Halos, 1985). This phenomenon has now been studied in detail (Magne, 1986).

PTEROCLADIOPHILA HEMISPHAERICA (RHODOPHYTA, CRYPTONEMIALES) IN THE CARIBBEAN
Acta Botanica Neerlandica, 1986SUMMARY Pterocladiophila hemisphaerica Fan et Papenfuss is reported from the island of Bonaire (Netherlands Antilles). It was found growing in Pterocladia bartlettii Taylor. A short description of its reproductive structures is given.
