RIB CAGE MOVEMENT DURING HALOTHANE ANAESTHESIA IN MAN

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 1979
Chest wall movement, partitioned into rib cage and abdomen/diaphragm contributions, was measured using four mercury-in-rubber strain gauges and an analog computer. The relative volume contribution of the rib cage and the abdomen/diaphragm to tidal volume was measured in 13 subjects before and during anaesthesia with thiopentone and halothane.

Kyphoscoliosis caused by lymphangiogenic form of Gorham – Stout disease with axial skeletal lesion

open access: yesХирургия позвоночника, 2017
The paper presents a clinical observation of a child with lymphangiogenic form of spontaneous osteolysis (Gorham – Stout disease) associated with massive destruction of the rib cage and progressive kyphoscoliotic deformity.

Differential effects of bariatric surgery on circulating GDF15 and FGF21 levels: Implications for glycemic status and weight loss outcomes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
Our research shows different post‐surgical patters in GDF15 and FGF21 concentrations following Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass. GDF15 levels increase significantly in patients with obesity and normoglycemia and in those with obesity and impaired glucose tolerance or type 2 diabetes, while FGF21 concentrations significantly decrease in patients with obesity ...

Large-bore tapered-roller bearing performance and endurance to 2.4 million DN [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The operating characteristics and experimental life estimates for 120.65 mm bore tapered roller bearings of two designs under combined radial and thrust loads were determined. A modified standard bearing design was tested at speeds up to 15,000 rpm.

The newsroom dilemma

open access: yesEconomic Inquiry, EarlyView.
Abstract Conventional wisdom suggests that competition in the modern digital environment pushes media outlets toward the early release of less accurate information. We show that this is not necessarily the case. Two opposing forces determine the resolution of the speed‐accuracy tradeoff: preemption and reputation.
