A Common Structural Basis for the Inhibition of Ribulose 1,5-Bisphosphate Carboxylase by 4-Carboxyarabinitol 1,5-Bisphosphate and Xylulose 1,5-Bisphosphate [PDF]
Ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) catalyzes the carboxylation of ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate. The reaction catalyzed by Rubisco involves several steps, some of which can occur as partial reactions, forming intermediates that can be isolated. Analogues of these intermediates are potent inhibitors of the enzyme.

Abstract The benthic diatom species Achnanthidium minutissimum belongs to a species complex with a challenging taxonomy. Achnanthidium minutissimum has been reported to be a widespread and abundant species occurring in a broad range of freshwater habitats. However, differentiating and delimiting it from other Achnanthidium species is challenging due to

Regulation of the cyanobacterial CO2-concentrating mechanism involves internal sensing of NADP+ and α-ketogutarate levels by transcription factor CcmR. [PDF]
Inorganic carbon is the major macronutrient required by organisms utilizing oxygenic photosynthesis for autotrophic growth. Aquatic photoautotrophic organisms are dependent upon a CO(2) concentrating mechanism (CCM) to overcome the poor CO(2)-affinity of

Summary Fumonisin B1 (FB1) is a mycotoxin that disrupts ceramide biosynthesis and kills plants. Prior activation with bacterial microbe‐associated molecular patterns (MAMPs), such as components of bacterial flagella, effectively suppresses FB1‐induced cell death.

Xylulose 1,5-Bisphosphate Synthesized by Ribulose 1,5-Bisphosphate Carboxylase/Oxygenase during Catalysis Binds to Decarbamylated Enzyme [PDF]
Xylulose 1,5-bisphosphate (XuBP) is synthesized from ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP) at carbamylated catalytic sites on ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (Rubisco) with significant amounts of XuBP being formed at pH less than 8.0. XuBP has been separated by high performance liquid chromatography and identified by pulsed amperometry from compounds ...

Summary Discovering functional and evolutionary interdependencies of hydraulic traits and crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) is crucial to understand CAM phenotype diversity and convergence. In complex traits such as CAM, the co‐option of associated traits strongly impacts the evolutionary outcome.

Enhancement of ribulose 1,5‐bisphosphate carboxylation reaction by carbonic anhydrase [PDF]
It has been established that algal cells grown with ordinary air (low-CO2 cells) have a much lower Km value for COZ in photosynthesis than those grown with COz-enriched air (high-CO, cells) [l-4]. Carbonic anhydrase (EC 4.2.1 .I) is almost exclusively located in low-CO2 cells of Chlorella and its activity in high-CO2 cells is marginal, if any [S ,6 ...

Summary Highly efficient phosphorus (P)‐use strategies have evolved in plants, allowing them to thrive in severely P‐impoverished environments. However, it remains unclear how allocating leaf P to biochemical fractions, including specific P‐containing metabolites, contributes to instantaneous photosynthetic P‐use efficiency (iPPUE) and the position of ...
