A simple modification of a method introduced by R. Bellman is proposed, which under certain circumstances produces both upper and lower bounds for the solution of the Riccati equation. An application to scattering theory is suggested.

On the Solvability of Extended Riccati Equations
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2004The Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov lemma, which gives necessary and sufficient conditions for solvability of matrix Lur'e-Riccati equations, is a milestone in modern control theory. There are, however, important and general extensions of this lemma that have not been studied yet.

On damped algebraic Riccati equations
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1998The paper extends an earlier algorithm to compute damping feedbacks for linear time-invariant systems. The main tool are damped algebraic Riccati equations which have Hermitian and skew-Hermitian solutions.

On the Discrete Riccati Matrix Equation
SIAM Journal on Algebraic Discrete Methods, 1985This paper gives a lower bound for the determinant of the positive definite solution of the discrete algebraic Riccati matrix equation. The authors state in the introduction that many iterative methods to solve the Riccati equation require an initial guess of the solution and that the lower bound they give may be useful for estimating the ''size'' of ...

"Fractional Tuning" of the Riccati Equation
Fractals, 1997The dynamics of a free-falling body in complex materials such as a polymer fluid is phenomenologically modeled using a fractional generalization of the Riccati equation. The solution exhibits a rich behavior in its parametric dependence, and unlike normal free–fall there is no terminal velocity, instead a power–law increase in time is obtained. Within
