General matrix pencil techniques for the solution of algebraic Riccati equations: a unified approach
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1997A theory of matrix pencils for solving both continuous and discrete-time algebraic Riccati equations is presented. Necessary and sufficient conditions for solvability of algebraic Riccati equations are given in terms of deflating subspaces of matrix pencils. It is shown that these conditions can be checked.
