Rice (Oryza sativa L.): Factors Affecting Androgenesis
1986The frequency of the induction of androgenesis in cultured anthers in general is rather low. In order to utilize anther culture in crop breeding programmes, it is essential that the haploids are produced in large numbers. In this communication various factors responsible for enhancing androgenesis in rice are discussed.

Plant regeneration from indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) protoplasts
Planta, 1989Rice (Oryza sativa L.) plants of the indica cultivar IR54 were regenerated from protoplasts. Conditions were developed for isolating and purifying protoplasts from suspension cultures with protoplast yields ranging from 1·10(6) to 15·10(6) viable protoplasts/1 g fresh weight. Protoplast viability after purification was generally over 90%.

Investigation of tocotrienol biosynthesis in rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Food Chemistry, 2013Rice tocotrienol (T3) has gained attention due to its physiological activities (e.g., antiangiogenesis). However, the biosynthetic pathway for T3 production in rice grain has not been well studied. We hypothesized that T3 biosynthesis enzymes and/or precursors play an important role in T3 production in whole grain.

Grain Accumulation of Selenium Species in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Environmental Science & Technology, 2012Efficient Se biofortification programs require a thorough understanding of the accumulation and distribution of Se species within the rice grain. Therefore, the translocation of Se species to the filling grain and their spatial unloading were investigated. Se species were supplied via cut flag leaves of intact plants and excised panicle stems subjected

Linkage studies in rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Euphytica, 1973In an intervarietal cross between IR 8 and Wanar 1, inheritance of pigmentation in coleoptile, leaf-sheath, auricle, node, internode, septum and glume was studied. A pleiotropic gene conditioning pigment in all these parts has been identified which may probably be one of the basic genes for anthocyanin pigmentation.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) composite population breeding
2002Since 1996, following CIAT's recommendations, the CIAT/CIRAD projects have phased out Oryza sativa conventional crossbreeding activities and concentrate on broadening the genetic base of rice. The development and enhancement by recurrent selection of upland rice populations are the new breeding strategies to achieve the objective.
