We have established a system to genetically engineer indica rice plants. In order to obtain transgenic plants, genes were introduced into protoplasts isolated from suspension cells of the indica rice var 'IR54' with the aid of polyethylene glycol (PEG). The neo gene was on pKAN and the gusA gene was on pPUR.

Oxidation of methane in the rhizosphere of rice plants
Biology and Fertility of Soils, 1996Oxidation of CH4 in the rhizosphere of rice plants was quantified using (1) methyl fluoride, a specific inhibitor of CH4 oxidation, and (2) measuring changes in plant-mediated CH4 emission after incubation under air, N2, or 40% O2. No significant rhizospheric CH4 oxidation was observed from rice plants in the ripening stage.

To separate the effect of straw application on Si availability in soil, two kinds of rice straws, which contained 15.5% (+ Si straw) and 0.2% SiO2 (—Si straw), were used at a rate of 1% of air-dry soil, respectively.

Plant biology, 2020Salt stress negatively affects growth and development of the plants. However, it is hypothesized that plant growth-promoting endophytic bacteria greatly alleviate the adverse effects of salinity and can promote growth and development of the plants.
