The structure of rice weevil pectin methylesterase. [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallogr F Struct Biol Commun, 2014
Rice weevils (Sitophilus oryzae) use a pectin methylesterase (EC 3.1.1.11), along with other enzymes, to digest cell walls in cereal grains. The enzyme is a right-handed β-helix protein, but is circularly permuted relative to plant and bacterial pectin methylesterases, as shown by the crystal structure determination reported here.

Efficacy of Chlorobenzene as a New Fumigant for Control of Confused Flour Beetle (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) and Rice Weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) [PDF]

open access: yesInsects
Chlorobenzene is an industrial chemical with relatively high vapor pressure and has been used in the past to produce pesticide DDT (Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane).

First confirmation of the distribution of rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae, in South Korea

open access: yesJournal of Asia-Pacific Biodiversity, 2018
In Korea, the classification of the Sitophilus weevil group occurring in stored grains has been confused, resulting in its misidentification in most references reporting Sitophilus oryzae (Linnaeus). However, we recently found and identified rice weevil (

Influence of Rice Seeding Rate on Efficacies of Neonicotinoid and Anthranilic Diamide Seed Treatments against Rice Water Weevil

open access: yesInsects, 2014
Rice in the U.S. is frequently seeded at low rates and treated before sowing with neonicotinoid or anthranilic diamide insecticides to target the rice water weevil.

Toxicity and enzymatic activity changes in rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae) induced by basil (Ocimum basilicum) and cumin (Cuminum cyminum) essential oils [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
The rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae is one of the primary insects that infest stored grains, causing both quantitative and qualitative losses. The use of synthetic pesticides to control it has led to the emergence of several problems related to human ...

Physicochemical grain properties of wheat cultivars and insect biology drive resistance to Sitophilus oryzae L. [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
The rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae L. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is a formidable global pest of storage grains. This study investigated how the interplay between the physicochemical grain parameters of wheat cultivars and the pest’s physiological ...

Assessments of some animal bones biochar as paddy protectants against rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae L. [Coleoptera: Curculionidae] [PDF]

open access: yesHeliyon
The main insect pest of stored paddy is Sitophilus oryzae (rice weevil). Huge amounts of rice are produced by peasant farmers each year, but the bulk of it is wasted due to insufficient storage facilities and insect pest attacks brought on by careless ...

Insecticidal efficiency of selected essential oils against stored pests Sitophilus orzyae and Callosobruchus maculatus by using GC–MS analysis [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Insect pests impose considerable damage on stored grains and food products globally, leading to a decrease in their weight, quality, and market value. Historically, various herbs and spices, including turmeric, garlic, and cloves, have been utilized to ...

Volatile Organic Compounds as Early Detection Indicators of Wheat Infected by Sitophilus oryzae [PDF]

open access: yesFoods
The rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.), is a major pest that poses a considerable threat to grain safety storage. Early detection is of great significance in reducing grain losses.

Influence of rice variety and grain form on the development and infestation of Sitophilus oryzae (L.): A comparative analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Post harvest losses caused by the rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae L.) pose a severe threat to food security and farmer income in Ethiopia. While both rice variety and grain processing form (paddy, brown, polished) influence susceptibility, their ...
