Which Way In? The RalF Arf-GEF Orchestrates Rickettsia Host Cell Invasion. [PDF]
Bacterial Sec7-domain-containing proteins (RalF) are known only from species of Legionella and Rickettsia, which have facultative and obligate intracellular lifestyles, respectively. L.

S -Adenosylmethionine Transport in Rickettsia prowazekii [PDF]
ABSTRACT Rickettsia prowazekii , the causative agent of epidemic typhus, is an obligate, intracellular, parasitic bacterium that grows within the cytoplasm of eucaryotic host cells. Rickettsiae exploit this intracellular environment by using transport systems for the compounds available in the host cell's cytoplasm ...

Acquisition of thymidylate by the obligate intracytoplasmic bacterium Rickettsia prowazekii [PDF]
The pathway for the acquisition of thymidylate in the obligate bacterial parasite Rickettsia prowazekii was determined. R. prowazekii growing in host cells with or without thymidine kinase failed to incorporate into its DNA the [3H]thymidine added to the culture. In the thymidine kinase-negative host cells, the label available to the rickettsiae in the

Risk1, a Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinase Effector, Promotes
To establish a habitable intracellular niche, various pathogenic bacteria secrete effectors that target intracellular trafficking and modulate phosphoinositide (PI) metabolism.

Potential role of head lice, Pediculus humanus capitis, as vectors of Rickettsia prowazekii
Since the pioneering work of Charles Nicolle in 1909 [see Gross (1996) Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 93:10539-10540] most medical officers and scientists have assumed that body lice are the sole vectors of Rickettsia prowazekii, the aetiological agent of louse ...

Transcriptional regulation in the obligate intracytoplasmic bacterium Rickettsia prowazekii [PDF]
Transcriptional regulation was demonstrated in Rickettsia prowazekii, an obligate intracytoplasmic bacterium. The level of citrate synthase (gltA) mRNA II, from promoter P2, was greater in the total RNA isolated from heavily infected L929 cells than in moderately infected L929 cells; conversely, the level of ATP/ADP translocase (tlc) mRNA was greater ...

Nucleotide sequence of the Rickettsia prowazekii citrate synthase gene [PDF]
The Rickettsia prowazekii citrate synthase (gltA) gene, previously cloned in Escherichia coli, was localized to a 2.0-kilobase chromosomal fragment. DNA sequence analysis of a portion of this fragment revealed an open reading frame of 1,308 base pairs that encodes a protein of 435 amino acids with a molecular weight of 49,171.
