The ultrastructure of Rickettsia slovaca in naturally infected females of the tick Dermacentor marginatus [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales de Parasitologie Humaine et Comparée, 1980
The ultrastructure of Rickettsia slovaca in naturally infected females of the tick Dermacentor marginatus is similar to that of other members of the spotted fever group rickettsiae. R. slovaca was found to multiply in all organs, tissues and cells examined.

Molecular detection of Anaplasma bovis, Candidatus Anaplasma boleense and Rickettsia spp. in ticks infesting small ruminants

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Anaplasma spp. and Rickettsia spp. are intracellular vector-borne pathogens and harbored by a wide range of ticks and vertebrate hosts. Aim of this study was to molecularly characterize Anaplasma spp. and Rickettsia spp. in different ticks collected from

Species- and elevation-linked variation in the molecular occurrence of tick-borne pathogens in Phylloscopus warblers breeding in Armenia

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases
Tick-borne pathogens (TBPs) are increasingly reported from migratory passerines, yet data from the South Caucasus remain limited. Warblers of the genus Phylloscopus differ in migratory strategies and elevational distributions, providing an opportunity to

Prevalence of Rickettsia species in ticks including identification of unknown species in two regions in Kazakhstan

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2019
Background Over 60 years ago clinical patterns resembling tick-borne rickettsioses have been described for the first time in Kazakhstan. Since 1995 the incidence of clinical cases of tick-borne rickettsioses in humans seems to be rising but studies on ...

First report of an infection with Rickettsia slovaca.

open access: yesFolia parasitologica, 1981
A description was given of an infection with Rickettsia slovaca following a tick bite. The clinical picture was that of an acute meningoencephalitis. Its etiology was confirmed serologically by an increase in complement-fixating antibodies, from negative values to diagnostically significant titers.

Neglected vector-borne bacterial diseases and arboviruses in the Mediterranean area

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2018
Arthropod vectors can transmit pathogenic microorganisms from one vertebrate to another during their blood meal. Although some vector-borne diseases have been eradicated in the Mediterranean area, such as malaria and dengue, recent endemic microorganisms

Diversity and prevalence of spotted-fever group rickettsiae in ixodid ticks across Slovakia, Central Europe

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases
Habitats with the sympatric occurrence of several ixodid tick species are significant from an epidemiological perspective. These habitats can influence the diversity and prevalence of tick-borne pathogens, and their monitoring can help estimate the risk ...
