Quantitative Decoding of Interactions in Tunable Nanomagnet Arrays Using First Order Reversal Curves [PDF]
To develop a full understanding of interactions in nanomagnet arrays is a persistent challenge, critically impacting their technological acceptance. This paper reports the experimental, numerical and analytical investigation of interactions in arrays of ...

Collinearity: revisiting the variance inflation factor in ridge regression
Ridge regression has been widely applied to estimate under collinearity by defining a class of estimators that are dependent on the parameter k. The variance inflation factor (VIF) is applied to detect the presence of collinearity and also as an ...

Polar Pore Surface of Polyamide Membranes Enabling Efficient Solvent Mixture Separation
A polyamide membrane with polar pore surfaces and relatively large pore is fabricated through interfacial polymerization between polyethyleneimine and trimesoyl chloride. Rapid separation of solvents with polarity differences is achieved by the synergistic effects of pore polarity and size sieving.

Pattern Transitions in a Soft Cylindrical Shell
Instability patterns of rolling up a sleeve appear more intricate than the ones of walking over a rug on floor, both characterized as uniaxially compressed soft-film/stiff-substrate systems. This can be explained by curvature effects.

A thin rivulet or ridge subject to a uniform transverse shear stress at its free surface due to an external airflow [PDF]
We use the lubrication approximation to analyse three closely related problems involving a thin rivulet or ridge (i.e. a two-dimensional droplet) of fluid subject to a prescribed uniform transverse shear stress at its free surface due to an external ...

Scaling‐Up of Structural Superlubricity: Challenges and Opportunities
At increasing length‐scales, structural superlubricity (SSL) faces challenges from physical and chemical energy dissipation pathways. This study reviews recent experimental and theoretical progress on these challenges facing the scaling‐up of SSL, as well as perspectives on future directions for realizing and manipulating macroscale superlubricity ...

Mean Dimension of Ridge Functions [PDF]
We consider the mean dimension of some ridge functions of spherical Gaussian random vectors of dimension $d$. If the ridge function is Lipschitz continuous, then the mean dimension remains bounded as $d\to\infty$. If instead, the ridge function is discontinuous, then the mean dimension depends on a measure of the ridge function's sparsity, and absent ...

Properties of Ridges in Elastic Membranes
When a thin elastic sheet is confined to a region much smaller than its size the morphology of the resulting crumpled membrane is a network of straight ridges or folds that meet at sharp vertices.
