Mid-ocean Ridges

2010
Mid-ocean ridges are the oceanic counterparts of continental graben structures. Both are zones of extension although mid-ocean ridges have substantially higher spreading rates and also mark plate boundaries where new oceanic crust and lithosphere are formed.

A 54-year-old man presented with acute swelling and pain in the posteromedial aspect of the knee not involving the joint itself. Aspiration of the soft tissue swelling produced viscous fluid in which multiple, negatively birefringent crystals were noted on compensated polarized microscopy.
