Kinematic-Chemical analysis and Time tagging for the Diagonal Ridge Structure of the Galactic Outer Disk with LAMOST Red Giant Branch Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We investigate the kinematic-chemical distribution of Red Giant Branch (RGB) stars from the LAMOST survey crossed matched with Gaia DR2 proper motions, and present time tagging for the well-known ridge structures (diagonal distributions for $V_R$ in the $R$, $V_\phi$ plane) in the range of Galactocentric distance $R$ = 8 to 15 kpc.

Droplets move over viscoelastic substrates by surfing a ridge [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2014
Liquid drops on soft solids generate strong deformations below the contact line, resulting from a balance of capillary and elastic forces. The movement of these drops may cause strong, potentially singular dissipation in the soft solid. Here we show that

Large enhancement of the thermoelectric figure of merit in a ridged quantum well [PDF]

open access: yesNanotechnology 20 (2009) 405401, 2009
Recently new quantum features were observed and studied in the ridged quantum wells (RQW). Periodic ridges on the surface of the quantum well layer impose additional boundary conditions on electron wave function and reduce quantum state density. As result, chemical potential of RQW increases and becomes the ridge height dependent.

Phased arrays of buried-ridge InP/InGaAsP diode lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Phase-locked arrays of buried-ridge InP/InGaAsP lasers, emitting at 1.3 µm, were grown by liquid phase epitaxy. The arrays consist of index-guided, buried-ridge lasers which are coupled via their evanescent optical fields.

The use of the model for determining potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tuber distribution in the soil

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Slovenica, 2017
The paper focuses on the testing of a model for determining the distribution of potato tubers in the soil. Analytical testing of the model was performed at the laboratory of the Biotechnological Faculty (University in Ljubljana) in 2015 and in the same ...

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

Added mass: a complex face of tidal conversion [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics 831, 101-127 (2017), 2018
This paper revisits the problem of tidal conversion at a ridge in a uniformly stratified fluid of limited depth using measurements of complex-valued added mass. When the height of a sub-marine ridge is non negligible with respect to the depth of the water, the tidal conversion can be enhanced in the supercritical regime or reduced in the subcritical ...

Energy and system dependence of high-$p_T$ triggered two-particle near-side correlations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Previous studies have indicated that the near-side peak of high-$p_T$ triggered correlations can be decomposed into two parts, the \textit{Jet} and the \textit{Ridge}.

Introduction to the Special Issue: From RIDGE to Ridge 2000 [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2012
Articles in this special issue of Oceanography represent a compendium of research that spans the disciplinary and thematic breadth of the National Science Foundation's Ridge 2000 Program, as well as its geographic focal points. The mid-ocean ridge (MOR) crest is where much of Earth's volcanism is focused and where most submarine volcanic activity ...
