Summary: The HKB estimator of \textit{A. E. Hoerl}, \textit{R. W. Kennard} and \textit{K. F. Baldwin} [Commun. Stat. 4, 105--123 (1975; Zbl 0296.62062)] is known to be an ordinary ridge type shrinkage estimator and an adjustment of degrees of freedom in the ordinary ridge estimator of \textit{R. W. Farebrother} [Technometrics 17, 127--128 (1975)].
