On the photon–classical electromagnetic field relationship

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper discusses how the two ways in which the wavefunction of a free‐propagating photon can be introduced—starting from the relativistic energy−momentum relationship or based on the electromagnetic field, in particular on Riemann–Silberstein vectors—are not entirely equivalent since they can lead to different consequences regarding photon

Effectiveness of the Ike Dike in mitigating coastal flood risk under multiple climate and sea level rise projections

open access: yesRisk Analysis, EarlyView.
Abstract In the aftermath of Hurricane Ike in 2008 in the United States, the “Ike Dike” was proposed as a coastal barrier system, featuring floodgates, to protect the Houston‐Galveston area (HGA) from future storm surges. Given its substantial costs, the feasibility and effectiveness of the Ike Dike have been subjects of investigation.

Statistical disaggregation—A Monte Carlo approach for imputation under constraints

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Equality‐constrained models naturally arise in problems in which the measurements are taken at different levels of resolution. The challenge in this setting is that the models usually induce a joint distribution which is intractable. Resorting to instead sampling from the joint distribution by means of a Monte Carlo approach is also ...

Places as refrains: A non‐constructive alternative to assemblage thinking

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, EarlyView.
Abstract Over the past 20 to 30 years, relational, post‐humanist, processual, and non‐representational approaches to space and place have gained an increasing purchase within anglophone human geography, whether underpinned by academic engagements with Western philosophy, anthropology, or indigenous thinking and praxis.
