On New Inequalities for h-convex Functions via Riemann-Liouville Fractional Integration

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, some new inequalities of the Hermite-Hadamard type for h-convex functions via Riemann-Liouville fractional integral are ...

Susceptible‐infected‐recovered model with stochastic transmission

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract The susceptible‐infected‐recovered (SIR) model is the cornerstone of epidemiological models. However, this specification depends on two parameters only, which results in its lack of flexibility and explains its difficulty to replicate the volatile reproduction numbers observed in practice.

The porous medium equation: Large deviations and gradient flow with degenerate and unbounded diffusion

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
Abstract The problem of deriving a gradient flow structure for the porous medium equation which is thermodynamic, in that it arises from the large deviations of some microscopic particle system is studied. To this end, a rescaled zero‐range process with jump rate g(k)=kα,α>1$g(k)=k^\alpha, \alpha >1$ is considered, and its hydrodynamic limit and ...

Modelling the Incremental Value of Personality Facets: The Domains‐Incremental Facets‐Acquiescence Bifactor Model

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Personality, EarlyView., 2020
Abstract Personality can be described at different levels of abstraction. Whereas the Big Five domains are the dominant level of analysis, several researchers have called for more fine‐grained approaches, such as facet‐level analysis. Personality facets allow more comprehensive descriptions, more accurate predictions of outcomes, and a better ...

The Riemann-Stieltjes Integral [PDF]

open access: yesMissouri Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 1994
Riemann-Stieltjes integration is an optional topic for a first course in real analysis. In this paper, we examine some of the pedagogical reasons in favor of its inclusion and some of the technical anachronisms associated with it.

Uniqueness on average of large isoperimetric sets in noncompact manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
Abstract Let (Mn,g)$(M^n,g)$ be a complete Riemannian manifold which is not isometric to Rn$\mathbb {R}^n$, has nonnegative Ricci curvature, Euclidean volume growth, and quadratic Riemann curvature decay. We prove that there exists a set G⊂(0,∞)$\mathcal {G}\subset (0,\infty)$ with density 1 at infinity such that for every V∈G$V\in \mathcal {G}$ there ...

Do Sojourn Effects on Personality Trait Changes Last? A Five‐Year Longitudinal Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Personality, EarlyView., 2020
Abstract This study examined sojourners' long‐term personality trait changes over five years, extending previous research on immediate sojourn effects. A sample of German students (N = 1095) was surveyed thrice (T1–T3) over the course of an academic year.

A comprehensive review of the Pachpatte-type inequality pertaining to fractional integral operators [PDF]

open access: yesSurveys in Mathematics and its Applications
In the frame of fractional calculus, the term convexity is primarily utilized to address several challenges in both pure and applied research. The main focus and objective of this review paper is to present Pachpatte-type inequalities involving a variety

A note on Riemann integrability [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1978
In this note we define Riemann integrabillty for real valued functions defined on a compact metric space accompanied by a finite Borel measure. If the measure of each open ball equals the measure of its corresponding closed ball, then a bounded function is Riemann integrable if and only if its set of points of discontinuity has measure zero.

On the Density–Density Correlations of the Non‐Interacting Finite Temperature Electron Gas

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The density–density correlations of the non‐interacting finite temperature electron gas are discussed in detail. Starting from the ideal linear density response function and utilizing general relations from linear response theory, known and novel expressions are derived for the pair correlation function, static structure factor, dynamic ...
