Survival and swimming performance of a small-sized Cypriniformes (Telestes muticellus) tagged with passive integrated transponders

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2023
Italian riffle dace (Telestes muticellus, Bonaparte 1837) is a small-bodied Leuciscidae native to the Italian Peninsula, of which little is known about the ecology and individual movements in nature.

Spontaneous formation and degradation of pool-riffle morphology and sediment sorting using a simple fractional transport model

open access: yes, 2012
Many gravel bed streams have a typical bed morphology consisting of pool-riffle sequences, which provides important habitat diversity both in terms of flow and substrate.

A flume experiment on the effect of constriction shape on the formation of forced pools [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2010
A series of 18 flume runs were conducted in a 6-m long, 0.5-m wide recirculating flume with a bed gradient of 0.8% to determine the influence of obstruction shape on the formation and characteristics of forced pools.

Non-metric conceptual clustering: a new tool for investigating urban quality of life (1)

open access: yesCybergeo, 1999
Based on the use of a non-metric conceptual clustering technique, this empirical study explores the quality of life of a small metropolitan city. The RIFFLE program, developed at Western Washington University, is utilized to explicitly address the ...

Constructed rock riffles increase habitat heterogeneity but not biodiversity in streams constrained by urban impacts

open access: yesEcosphere, 2023
Riffles are heterogeneous habitats that support diverse assemblages in natural streams. They are often constructed as part of stream restoration practice, including in degraded urban stream ecosystems, despite larger scale limits to ecological state ...

A Study On The Flow Characteristic In The Artificial Riffle Zone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
With the rapid development of the world as well as in Malaysia, many natural rivers have been destroyed due to urbanisation. Urban modernisation has brought changes to the natural environment; therefor'e, people should ameliorate the damaged river using ...

Environmental drivers and composition of assemblages of immature odonates (Insecta) in a subtropical island in southern Brazil

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia, 2020
: Aim Describe the diversity of immature stages of Odonata (Insecta) in streams from a subtropical island in southern Brazil and investigate the influence of environmental variables on the composition of their assemblages.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

The effect of riffle restoration on the recovery of endangered Nooksack Dace (Rhinichthys cataractae sp. cataractae)

open access: yesFACETS
The Nooksack Dace (Rhinichthys cataractae sp. cataractae) is a federally endangered riffle specialist endemic to the lower Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada, with historic population declines associated with riffle loss from stream dredging ...

Assessing nitrogen uptake and the impact of fertilizer amounts and sources on strawberry production in California

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment, 2022
A study was conducted in Oxnard, CA, from 2014 to 2015 to assess seasonal nitrogen (N) uptake, and 2018–2019 to assess the effect of fertilizer rates and types (calcium nitrate [CN9] and ammonium nitrate [AN20]) on yield of two strawberry (Fragaria ...
