Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Empirical Assessments of the Type and Strength of Stream Fish Habitat Associations Can Advance Understanding of Functional Diversity and Promote Effective Conservation

open access: yesDiversity
The ability to accurately quantify biodiversity is fundamental to understanding ecological trends, identifying drivers of declines, and selecting effective conservation options.

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

Disentangling small dam impacts: macroinvertebrate metrics reveal local stressors in degraded agricultural streams

open access: yesJournal of Freshwater Ecology
Agricultural land use and dams present prevalent, interacting stressors on freshwater ecosystems across Europe and globally. This study assessed the efficacy of established, taxonomy-based macroinvertebrate metrics for detecting localized dam impacts ...

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Turbulence structures in isolated pool-riffle units [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The macroscale morphology of a river has significant effects on sediment transport, flow pattern, bed stability, and ecosystem function. Pools and riffles, which are respectively the deeper and shallower parts of the bed, are a common morphology that is ...

Sediment routing hypothesis for pool-riffle maintenance

open access: yes, 2013
This paper provides comprehensive evidence that sediment routing around pools is a key mechanism for pool-riffle maintenance in sinuous upland gravel-bed streams.
