Modulation of hemispheric asymmetry in executive control of attention in schizophrenia with atypical antipsychotic treatment: Potential benefits of olanzapine

open access: yesSchizophrenia Research: Cognition
Deficits in executive control of attention have been reported in schizophrenia patients, but can be ameliorated by treatment of atypical antipsychotics along with the symptoms. However, it remains unclear whether this effect is related to a modulation of

White Matter Microstructural Abnormalities in Neonatal Onset Genetic Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Recent evidence indicates that epilepsy is associated with abnormal white matter. If seizures alter white matter, then the impact upon network function, epileptogenesis, and cognition could be pronounced in neonates undergoing rapid developmental myelination. Neonates with epilepsy due to nonstructural genetic causes provide a unique

Neurochemical Endpoints to Inform Early‐Stage Trials of Spinocerebellar Ataxia 2 and 3 in a Multisite Setting

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neurochemical levels measured by brain MR spectroscopy (MRS) have been proposed as endpoints for clinical trials in early‐stage spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) trials. We tested their trial‐readiness by quantifying neurochemicals in three affected brain regions in early‐stage cohorts of SCA2 and SCA3, examining their reproducibility in ...

Effect of verbal interference and response hand on hemisphere asymmetries in sad facial expression processing.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
A growing amount of evidence highlights a role for the left hemisphere in negative facial expression processing. The present study investigated the extent to which language contributes to this left hemisphere involvement by comparing performance during ...

3477 Impaired emotion recognition accuracy after right-hemisphere stroke

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science, 2019
OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: Every year, approximately 800,000 Americans suffer a stroke. Supportive social environments are recognized as an important factor contributing to successful stroke recovery, yet, stroke lesions can affect brain areas important ...

Thalamo‐Lesional Connectivity Signatures of Bilateral Tonic–Clonic Seizures in Focal Cortical Dysplasia‐Related Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is the most common etiology of drug‐resistant epilepsy in children. Focal to bilateral tonic–clonic seizures (FBTCS) mark a high risk of drug‐resistant epilepsy and involve thalamocortical circuitry in their generation and propagation.

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

The relationship between balance and visuospatial attention on hemispheric stroke survivors: A study of egocentric and allocentric neural processing

open access: yesNeuroImage: Clinical
Background: Impaired balance and visuospatial attention are well-documented sequelae of stroke. However, the interplay between balance function and visuospatial attention, particularly within egocentric and allocentric reference frames, remains poorly ...

Nonthermal Plasma Reduction of Nickel Oxide Layers by Atmospheric Pressure Dielectric Barrier Discharge in Argon/Hydrogen

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores the reduction of nickel oxide layers using dielectric barrier discharge plasma in an argon–hydrogen atmosphere. The results reveal a strong temperature dependence, enabling complete reduction of thick oxide layers at 200°C within seconds.
