ABSTRACT Anatomy instruction is enhanced when students are engaged and interested in course material, and the relevance of the subject matter to their academic success and professional careers is emphasized. We developed a learning activity for a pre‐clinical anatomy course using the clinical skills of inspection and palpation of a cadaver donor to ...

Rising Central venous pressure: Impending right-sided failure?
Central venous pressure generally indicates right sided cardiac filling pressure. Although it is a static hemodynamic parameter, however trend of CVP gives important information regarding the patient's management.

Automatic Right Ventricle Segmentation using Multi-Label Fusion in Cardiac MRI [PDF]
Accurate segmentation of the right ventricle (RV) is a crucial step in the assessment of the ventricular structure and function. Yet, due to its complex anatomy and motion segmentation of the RV has not been as largely studied as the left ventricle.

Significance of right ventricular function for the outcome of treatment and remodeling of the heart after left ventricular assist device implantation [PDF]
The efficiency of the device for permanent circulatory support of the left ventricle has been proven through clinical practice with the trend of constant improvement of treatment results along with biotechnological progress and improvement of surgical ...

Sequential Pattern mining of Longitudinal Adverse Events After Left Ventricular Assist Device Implant [PDF]
Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are an increasingly common therapy for patients with advanced heart failure. However, implantation of the LVAD increases the risk of stroke, infection, bleeding, and other serious adverse events (AEs). Most post-LVAD AEs studies have focused on individual AEs in isolation, neglecting the possible interrelation ...

The Variational Multiscale Formulation for the Fully-Implicit Log-Morphology Equation as a Tensor-Based Blood Damage Model [PDF]
We derive a variational multiscale (VMS) finite element formulation for a viscoelastic, tensor-based blood damage model. The tensor equation is numerically stabilized by a logarithmic shape tensor description that prevents unphysical, negative eigenvalues.

Right ventricular temporal assist device for cardiac recompensation
AbstractIn this case report, we discuss treatment of a 66‐year‐old patient with right heart failure due to chronic left heart failure caused by ischemic cardiomyopathy. We decided to manage this patient by implanting a temporary right ventricular assist device (Impella RP®) as a novel therapeutic option for acute on chronic right heart decompensation.

ABSTRACT Background Angulation of virtual basal ring (VBR), also known as aortic annulus, in relation to sino‐tubular junction (STJ) may lead to greater exposure of implanted stent to the conduction system, consequently increasing the risk of left bundle branch block (LBBB).

Aims 20% to 40% of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) device implantations are complicated by right ventricular (RV) failure that results in significant morbidity and mortality. We hypothesized that the duration on milrinone infusion is an independent
