Right ventricular mechanical pattern in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery: a predictor of post‐operative dysfunction?

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, 2020
The PREPARE‐MVR study (PRediction of Early PostoperAtive Right vEntricular failure in Mitral Valve Replacement/Repair patients) sought to investigate the alterations of right ventricular (RV) contraction pattern in patients undergoing mitral valve ...

Right Heart Remodeling in Patients with End-Stage Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis: Speckle Tracking Point of View [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND: Data regarding cardiac remodeling in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis are scarce. We sought to investigate right atrial (RA) and right ventricular (RV) structure, function, and mechanics in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis.

Long Term High‐Salt Diet Induces Cognitive Impairments via Down‐Regulating SHANK1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study identifies a novel mechanistic link between long‐term HS diet and cognitive impairment, wherein PKA/CREB axis inactivation leads to SHANK1 reduction, synaptic damage, and cognitive deficits. Abstract High‐salt (HS) diet is an established risk factor for cognitive impairment, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Impact of Right Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction on Outcome in Aortic Stenosis

open access: yesCirculation Cardiovascular Imaging, 2020
Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text. Background: Pulmonary hypertension is an established outcome predictor in patients with aortic stenosis (AS), but the prognostic impact of right ventricular dysfunction has not been well studied ...

Assessment of left atrial volume before and after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundImpaired left ventricular diastolic filling is common in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), and recent studies support left ventricular underfilling as a cause.

Mechanical Stress Induced NOX2 Promotes Endothelial Dysfunction in Ventilator‐Induced Lung Injury: Potential Treatment with Quercetin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Abnormal mechanical stretch induced by mechanical ventilation (MV) disrupts endothelial junctions via the NOX2/ROS/CaMKII/ERK1/2 axis both in human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs) in vitro and in ventilator‐induced lung injury (VILI) in mice. Quercetin, an antioxidant predicted to bind to NOX2, can effectively prevent mechanical stretch‐induced ...

Disconnect between Fibrotic Response and Right Ventricular Dysfunction.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2019
Rationale: Remodeling and fibrosis of the right ventricle (RV) may cause RV dysfunction and poor survival in patients with pulmonary hypertension. Objectives: To investigate the consequences of RV fibrosis modulation and the accompanying cellular changes

EBBP‐Mediated Integrated Stress Response Attenuates Anthracycline‐Induced Cardiotoxicity by Inhibiting the Ferroptosis of Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
EBBP expression is significantly upregulated in DOX‐treated cardiomyocytes. Mechanistically, EBBP interacts with GRP78 to mediate K63‐linked ubiquitination, thereby attenuating the inhibitory GRP78‐PERK interaction and triggering activation of the PERK‐mediated integrated stress response (ISR).

A Human Engineered Heart Tissue‐Derived Lipotoxic Diabetic Cardiomyopathy Model Revealed Early Benefits of Empagliflozin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a human engineered heart tissue‐derived model of diabetic cardiomyopathy that accurately replicates the dynamic changes in the structural, contractile, and electrophysiological properties of the myocardium. Furthermore, this model is used to confirm the direct protective effects of empagliflozin on the heart through an SGLT2 off ...

Preoperative right ventricular strain as an early predictor of perioperative cardiac failure in patients undergoing mitral surgery: An exploratory study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports
Objectives This study's primary purpose was to demonstrate the correlation of preoperative right ventricular free‐wall longitudinal strain (RVFWLS) and pre‐/postsurgical variation in strain (delta strain) with the clinical and echocardiographic diagnosis
