Rigid versus soft foot orthoses. A single subject design

Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 1991
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of rigid and soft foot orthoses on forefoot and rearfoot forces in a 20-year-old female runner with a history of tibial and metatarsal stress fractures. The results of this study indicate that a soft orthosis significantly reduced vertical forces through the foot during both walking and running.

Assessment of lumped-parameter models for rigid footings

Computers & Structures, 2010
The quality of consistent lumped-parameter models of rigid footings is examined. Emphasis is put on the maximum response during excitation and the geometrical damping related to free vibrations. The optimal order of a lumped-parameter model is determined for each degree of freedom, i.e.

Bearing capacity of rigid strip footings near soil slopes

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Engineering and Computational Mechanics, 2020
A reasonable combination of asymmetric foundation failure and whole slope failure is essential to solve the problem of the ultimate bearing capacity of a rigid strip footing near a soil slope. Based on a bilaterally admissible failure mechanism put forward to meet the requirement of the combination, a closed-form analytical solution to the ultimate ...

Effect of Tie Beam Rigidity on Strip Footings

Recent Advances in Material, Analysis, Monitoring, and Evaluation in Foundation and Bridge Engineering, 2014
This paper presents the effect of the tie beams that connect footings on the contact stress under footings applying the 2-D finite element (FE) technique. It showed that the tie beam rigidity has a significant effect on the average contact stress (P sub sm) and corresponding differential settlement under footings.

Management of the Rigid Cavus Foot in Children and Adolescents

Foot and Ankle Clinics, 2013
This article reviews historical approaches to the various osteotomies in the treatment of rigid cavus feet in children, with an emphasis on the biplanar nature of historical osteotomies. The Akron dome midfoot osteotomy is performed at the apex of the rigid cavus deformity and allows for maximum correction in any plane, and for varus, valgus, dorsal ...

Lambrinudi triple arthrodesis for correction of severe rigid drop-foot

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1984
The results of 10 patients with severe rigid drop-foot corrected by the Lambrinudi triple arthrodesis were studied. The average amount of correction was 47 degrees, as evaluated from standing radiographs taken before and after operation. Radiological features of osteoarthritis and of flattening of the talus were common, but the feet were painless when

DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF RIGID SURFACE FOOTINGS BY BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1998
Summary: An accurate and efficient boundary element procedure is developed for the analysis of dynamic response of rigid surface footings. The footings are assumed to be resting on an elastic half-space. The problem is formulated in the frequency domain by adopting the half-space Green's function for surface point loads.
