MECHANISTIC DESIGN OF RIGID PAVEMENTS

Proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete Pavements
This paper deals with the development and verification of a stress analysis model (RIGMUL) and the use of this model in a program for the design of rigid pavements. RIGMUL is the result of coupling finite element plate theory with multilayer elastic layer theory and consists of a two-layer rigid slab resting on a semi-infinite three-layer elastic solid

Advanced Analysis of Rigid Pavements

Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE, 1972
STRESSES IN RIGID PAVEMENTS WERE OBTAINED BY USING A FOUNDATION MODEL RATHER THAN THE DENSE LIQUID MODEL. THE FOUNDATION WAS TREATED AS AN ELASTIC CONTINUOUS, BUT DIFFERENT BOUNDARY CONDITIONS WERE CONSIDERED FOR THE PAVEMENT SLAB, AND AN IMPROVED COMPUTATION TECHNIQUE WAS USED.

Rigid and Stiff Airport Pavement

Journal of the Aero-Space Transport Division, 1964
A logical testing and design approach for rigid airport paving is reported. A reasonable formulation, design, and testing procedure is developed for stiff airport paving or stiff subbase. Four novel design features are presented: (1) The highly elusive Westergaard’s subgrade modulus is converted to a fixed elastic modulus; (2) stiff materials, such as ...

Rigid Pavement Maintenance for Airfields

Journal of the Aero-Space Transport Division, 1967
The advent of jet aircraft has necessitated a reevaluation of pavement maintenance with respect to smoothness and reducing the probability of foreign object (debris) damage to jet engines and tires. The repair of spalled joints is one facet of rigid pavement maintenance for which repair techniques and materials have been developed and successfully used.

Stresses in Jointed Rigid Pavements

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1999
A novel application of the principles of fracture mechanics combined with multilayered elastic theory is used to obtain the design stresses midway between the transverse joints at the bottom of the longitudinal edge of rigid pavements and for corner loading of slabs without dowels.

RIGID PAVEMENT DESIGN FOR AIRFIELDS

Proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete Pavements
This article provides a detailed review of the evolution of rigid pavement design for airfields, particularly under the purview of the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Beginning with an urgent need for airfield pavements around the entry of the United States into World War II, the article tracks the development

NONDESTRUCTIVE AIRFIELD RIGID PAVEMENT EVALUATION

Proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete Pavements
A nondestructive evaluation procedure is presented that has been developed for a variety of NDT equipment. The methodology is based on layered elastic theory and uses a performance model developed previously for airport type loadings. A study was conducted at MacDill Air Force Base to compare evaluation methodologies being used on airport pavements ...

Concrete Fundamentals for Rigid Pavements

2017
Portland cement concrete (PCC) is the most commonly used construction material in the world. Approximately half of all PCC used in the United States is consumed in the construction of PCC pavements. The constituents of PCC include coarse aggregates, fine aggregate, Portland cement, water, and mineral or chemical admixtures.

Feasibility of reclaimed asphalt pavement in rigid pavement construction

2016
Construction and demolition waste along with waste obtained from reconstruction or resurfacing of pavements produces enormous amount of aggregates. Many studies have been carried out to analyse the use of Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA) and Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in flexible and rigid pavement respectively, but very few on each other Due ...

Rigid Pavement Stresses under Aircraft Loading

Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE, 1971
Surface strain measurements were made under field loading conditions on an airport rigid pavement. Theorectical calculations for the same loading conditions were carried out using finite element and pavement structure properties as determined by laboratory tests on materials sampled from the test site.
