Temperature Effects on Rigid Pavements

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1994
An analysis technique, to be used in conjunction with packaged finite‐element programs, is developed for the study of rigid pavements subjected to temperature loading. For illustrative purpose, the pavement is idealized as a thin isotropic plate resting on a Winkler‐type elastic foundation.

Sensor Installation in Rigid Pavement

Experimental Techniques, 1999
This unique approach for installing strain gages in PCC pavement sections in the Ohio SHRP Test Road was very successful. All sensors were installed during construction with no delays to the contractor, and all gages performed well in controlled vehicle tests which followed.

Breaking Load for Rigid Pavement

Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE, 1970
A method of analysis has been suggested for the calculation of a breaking load for a rigid pavement taking the effect of centrally placed load and temperature independently and assuming a transverse yield line under the load to denote failure. The breaking load results predicted by the proposed method have been compared with those obtained from other ...

Comparative Analyses of Rigid Pavements

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1983
Stress conditions in concrete pavements were analyzed using the finite element method for slabs on liquid and elastic subgrades. The study consisted of the following parts: (1) The effect of the efficiency of load transfer across the joints; (2) the loading positions that produce the most critical stress and deflection conditions in the pavement; (3 ...

MECHANISTIC DESIGN OF RIGID PAVEMENTS

Proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete Pavements
This paper deals with the development and verification of a stress analysis model (RIGMUL) and the use of this model in a program for the design of rigid pavements. RIGMUL is the result of coupling finite element plate theory with multilayer elastic layer theory and consists of a two-layer rigid slab resting on a semi-infinite three-layer elastic solid

NDT assessment of rigid pavement damages with ground penetrating radar: laboratory and field tests

International Journal of Pavement Engineering, 2020
Cracks in rigid pavements are a frequent and critical problem, which needs to be assessed to avoid deterioration and provide comfort and security. Control of damage requires the evaluation of cracks width and depth.

Advanced Analysis of Rigid Pavements

Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE, 1972
STRESSES IN RIGID PAVEMENTS WERE OBTAINED BY USING A FOUNDATION MODEL RATHER THAN THE DENSE LIQUID MODEL. THE FOUNDATION WAS TREATED AS AN ELASTIC CONTINUOUS, BUT DIFFERENT BOUNDARY CONDITIONS WERE CONSIDERED FOR THE PAVEMENT SLAB, AND AN IMPROVED COMPUTATION TECHNIQUE WAS USED.

Feasibility Study on Use of Washed-Reclaimed Asphalt as a Partial Replacement of Natural Aggregate in Dry-Lean Concrete as Base Course for Rigid Pavement

, 2020
Dry-lean concrete (DLC) lies below the wearing course of the rigid pavement section to overcome the major reasons for its failure, such as improper base support, seepage of underground wate...

Rigid and Stiff Airport Pavement

Journal of the Aero-Space Transport Division, 1964
A logical testing and design approach for rigid airport paving is reported. A reasonable formulation, design, and testing procedure is developed for stiff airport paving or stiff subbase. Four novel design features are presented: (1) The highly elusive Westergaard’s subgrade modulus is converted to a fixed elastic modulus; (2) stiff materials, such as ...
