Mechanistic Evaluation of Rigid Airfield Pavements
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1995A structural deterioration relationship is developed using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers accelerated traffic tests for plain concrete airfield pavements. The relationship predicts the performance of the rigid pavement in terms of the structural condition index from the pavement's Westergaard edge stresses, flexural strength, and number of load ...

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1996
A construction method for rigid pavement utilizing waste plastic for forms to create cells is analyzed for stress resulting from application of a standard highway equivalent single axle load (ESAL). The finite-element method is used. The analysis parametrically studied varying slab, base, subbase, and subgrade thickness and elastic properties and two ...

Nanoconcrete for Rigid Pavements
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2014Abrasion resistance in concrete is related to the ability of the surface to resist being worn away by rubbing and friction. High-quality concrete is recognized as enhancing both abrasion and macrotexture durability under traffic loading. Pavement friction is the result of two primary frictional force components: adhesion and hysteresis.

Breaking and Seating of Rigid Pavements
1987Breaking and seating has been utilized extensively in Kentucky to rehabilitate portland cement concrete pavements. Experience over three or four years with this type of design and construction are summarized and reported. Breaking to a range of nominal fragments is evaluated. Evaluation of two roller weights for seating is reported.

MECHANISTIC DESIGN OF RIGID PAVEMENTS
Proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete PavementsThis paper deals with the development and verification of a stress analysis model (RIGMUL) and the use of this model in a program for the design of rigid pavements. RIGMUL is the result of coupling finite element plate theory with multilayer elastic layer theory and consists of a two-layer rigid slab resting on a semi-infinite three-layer elastic solid

Comparative Analyses of Rigid Pavements
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1983Stress conditions in concrete pavements were analyzed using the finite element method for slabs on liquid and elastic subgrades. The study consisted of the following parts: (1) The effect of the efficiency of load transfer across the joints; (2) the loading positions that produce the most critical stress and deflection conditions in the pavement; (3 ...

Breaking Load for Rigid Pavement
Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE, 1970A method of analysis has been suggested for the calculation of a breaking load for a rigid pavement taking the effect of centrally placed load and temperature independently and assuming a transverse yield line under the load to denote failure. The breaking load results predicted by the proposed method have been compared with those obtained from other ...

Soil-cement as a rigid pavement material. [PDF]
Many design methods for soil-cement pavements have been developed and used by road authorities. Without exception, they are empirical and take no account of the stresses which cause failure, or the resistance of soil-cement to these stresses. While most of these pavements have been satisfactory, some have failed in service.

Sensor Installation in Rigid Pavement
Experimental Techniques, 1999This unique approach for installing strain gages in PCC pavement sections in the Ohio SHRP Test Road was very successful. All sensors were installed during construction with no delays to the contractor, and all gages performed well in controlled vehicle tests which followed.
