A review of Rijke tubes, Rijke burners and related devices

Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, 1993
Abstract Thermoacoustic devices related to the Rijke tube are reviewed. Most modern thermoacoustic devices use as a heat source a heated wire or ribbon or a premixed gas flame anchored to a metal gauze, metal tube matrix or porous ceramic frit. Numerous experiments have confirmed that combustion-driven oscillations in tube devices are ‘Rijke tube’ or

Electroacoustic control of Rijke tube instability

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2017
Abstract Unsteady heat release coupled with pressure fluctuation triggers the thermoacoustic instability which may damage a combustion chamber severely. This study demonstrates an electroacoustic control approach of suppressing the thermoacoustic instability in a Rijke tube by altering the wall boundary condition.

Mathematical modeling of a generalized Rijke tube

International Journal of Engineering Science, 1998
A mathematical model of unsteady velocity sensitive thermoacoustic interactions in a heated duct (generalized Rijke tube) is developed. The model is constructed in a general way which is capable of employing any linear velocity sensitive thermoacoustic response model. A solution methodology is then constructed based on modal analysis.

The Rijke tube — A thermo-acoustic device

Resonance, 2003
The Rijke tube is simply a cylindrical tube with both ends openand a heat source placed inside it. The heat source may be aflame or an electrical heating element. Traditionally, the tube ispositioned vertically on a stand (or even in your hand) and theheat source is introduced from below into the tube (

Thermoacoustic Instabilities in an Annular Rijke Tube

Volume 2: Combustion, Fuels and Emissions, Parts A and B, 2010
Thermoacoustic instabilities are a major concern in the design of gas turbine combustors. Most modern combustion chambers have an annular shape with multiple circumferentially arranged burners and, accordingly, suffer often from azimuthal instability modes.
