A review of Rijke tubes, Rijke burners and related devices

Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, 1993
Abstract Thermoacoustic devices related to the Rijke tube are reviewed. Most modern thermoacoustic devices use as a heat source a heated wire or ribbon or a premixed gas flame anchored to a metal gauze, metal tube matrix or porous ceramic frit. Numerous experiments have confirmed that combustion-driven oscillations in tube devices are ‘Rijke tube’ or

Identification of a model for thermoacoustic instabilities in a Rijke tube

IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2002
In a large class of processes characterized by the presence of a heating source placed in a finite volume, the interaction between the flow field and the heat release mechanism can lead to unsteady fluctuations, known as thermoacoustic instabilities.

Experiments on the Rijke-Tube Phenomenon

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1964
A horizontal Rijke tube with movable closed ends (an inversion of the classical open-ended apparatus) was satisfactorily tested over a wide range of experimental parameters, and demonstrated close correlation between observation and existing theory. The horizontal tube isolated operation from the laboratory standing-wave patterns, and allowed precise ...

Mathematical modeling of a generalized Rijke tube

International Journal of Engineering Science, 1998
A mathematical model of unsteady velocity sensitive thermoacoustic interactions in a heated duct (generalized Rijke tube) is developed. The model is constructed in a general way which is capable of employing any linear velocity sensitive thermoacoustic response model. A solution methodology is then constructed based on modal analysis.
