Rijke Organ: Modeling and Control of Array of Rijke Tubes

open access: yesIFAC-PapersOnLine, 2020
Abstract Rijke tube is a popular physical experiment demonstrating a spontaneous generation of sound in an open vertical pipe with a heat source. This laboratory instance of thermoacoustic instability has been researched due to its significance in practical thermoacoustic systems.

Hopf Bifurcation Analysis of the Combustion Instability in a Liquid Rocket Engine

open access: yesAerospace, 2022
The bifurcation process of self-sustained combustion instability pressure perturbations in a liquid rocket combustor is investigated based on the Helmholtz equations and a pressure dependent flame describing function. The modal frequency and growth rates

Simulation of 2-way fluid structure interaction in a 3D model combustor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The liner of a gas turbine combustor is a very flexible structure that is exposed to the pressure oscillations that occur in the combustor. These pressure oscillations can be of very high amplitude due to thermoacoustic instability, when the fluctuations

Transition to Instability in Segmented Rijke Tube [PDF]

open access: yesThe Open Thermodynamics Journal, 2009
Thermoacoustic instabilities can arise in systems where unsteady heat release is favorably coupled with acous- tic pressure oscillations. A modified Rijke tube with segments having different sections is found to have lower threshold levels of heat addition rate needed for exciting the fundamental acoustic mode of the tube.

Adjoint-based linear analysis in reduced-order thermo-acoustic models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents the linear theory of adjoint equations as applied to thermo-acoustics. The purpose is to describe the mathematical foundations of adjoint equations for linear sensitivity analysis of thermo-acoustic systems, recently developed by ...

Aeroacoustic Attenuation Performance of a Helmholtz Resonator with a Rigid Baffle Implemented in the Presence of a Grazing Flow

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
To broaden its’ effective frequency range and to improve its transmission loss performance, a modified design of a Helmholtz resonator is proposed and evaluated by implementing a rigid baffle in its cavity. Comparison is then made between the proposed design and the conventional one by considering a rectangular duct with the resonator implemented in ...

Modeling for Active Control of Combustion and Thermally Driven Oscillations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Organized oscillations excited and sustained by high densities of energy release in combustion chambers have long caused serious problems in development of propulsion systems.

A Green's function approach to predict nonlinear thermoacoustic instabilities in combustors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The prediction of thermoacoustic instabilities is fundamental for combustion systems such as domestic burners and industrial gas turbine engines. High-amplitude pressure oscillations cause thermal and mechanical stress to the equipment, leading to ...

Weakly nonlinear analysis of thermoacoustic bifurcations in the Rijke tube [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this study we present a theoretical weakly nonlinear framework for the prediction of thermoacoustic oscillations close to Hopf bifurcations. We demonstrate the method for a thermoacoustic network that describes the dynamics of an electrically heated ...

The stability of a rising droplet: an inertialess nonmodal growth mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Prior modal stability analysis (Kojima et al., Phys. Fluids, vol. 27, 1984) predicted that a rising or sedimenting droplet in a viscous fluid is stable in the presence of surface tension no matter how small, in contrast to experimental and numerical ...
