Breaking Inversion Symmetry via Vanadium Coordination Engineering in Bismuth Vanadium Selenites

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Vanadium coordination engineering induces symmetry breaking in bismuth selenites by transforming symmetry‐compensated VO6/VO5F units into directionally aligned VO5 polyhedra. The resulting non‐antiparallel vanadyl arrangement eliminates dipole cancellation and stabilizes a polar noncentrosymmetric framework with nonlinear optical activity.

Study on the influence of key structural parameters of turbine heat shields on the thermal load of bearing shell

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Increasing engine power outputs have raised exhaust gas temperatures, intensifying thermal stresses on turbine systems and compromising bearing reliability through accelerated seal ring degradation and oil coking.

Parametric Single Gap Turbine Rim Seal Model With Boundary Generation for Asymmetric External Flow

open access: yes, 2010
In an effort to provide predictions for hot annulus ingestion flows across turbine rim seals into rotor-stator wheel-space cavities, this paper describes a parametric single gap turbine rim seal model, which contains of several different sub- or part ...

Artificial supplementary food influences hedgehog occupancy and activity patterns more than predator presence or natural food availability

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Supplementary feeding for declining hedgehog Erinaceus europaeus populations is popular in Great Britain and has been suggested as an important factor in explaining higher densities in urban areas compared with rural ones. Occupancy modelling was used to test whether spatial variation in supplementary feeding, natural food, habitat, or predator ...

Performance of Rim-Seals in Upstream and Downstream Cavities over a Range of Flow Coefficients

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power, 2017
This paper presents measurements of CO2 concentration and pressure in a new, highly instrumented and versatile, 1.5-stage gas turbine facility. The rig, which has been specifically designed for investigations related to hot gas ingestion, features ...

From Nominalisation to Passive in Old Tibetan: Reconstructing Grammatical Meaning in an Extinct Language1

open access: yesTransactions of the Philological Society, EarlyView.
Abstract Based on an analysis of the Old Literary Tibetan corpus—a corpus of the oldest documented Tibetic language—the present study provides evidence that literary Tibetan v3 verb stems (commonly termed ‘future’) initially encoded passive voice. New arguments put forward in this article range from Trans‐Himalayan nominal morphology to early Tibetan ...

Outcomes of arthroscopic "Remplissage": capsulotenodesis of the engaging large Hill-Sachs lesion

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2011
Background A Hill-Sachs lesion of the humeral head after a shoulder dislocation is clinically insignificant in most cases. However, a sizable defect will engage with the anterior rim of the glenoid and cause instability even after anterior glenoid ...

Comparison of single and double lip rim seal geometry

open access: yes, 2016
The effect of purge flow, engine-like blade pressure field and mainstream flow coefficient are studied experimentally for a single and double lip rim seal.

Assessment of Scaling Rule for Hot Gas Ingestion in Representative Turbine Rim Seal System for Large Industrial Gas Turbines

open access: yes, 2022
An assessment has been carried out on the applicability of scaling the hot gas ingestion depth in terms of a non-dimensional sealing parameter for a rim seal cavity wheelspace system representative of that in an industrial gas turbine for power ...

Bridging the Late Antique Gap in Northwest Arabia: New Archaeological Evidence on the Occupation of Wādī al‐Qurā (al‐ʿUlā [AlUla], Saudi Arabia) Between the Third and Seventh Centuries CE

open access: yesArabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In 2019, the Dadan Archaeological Project (CNRS/RCU/AFALULA) identified a Late Antique village 1 km south of ancient Dadan in the al‐ʿUlā valley (northwest Saudi Arabia). Three excavation seasons at this site (2021–2023) have uncovered a massive building constructed in the late third or early fourth cent.
