Dimensionality Reduction Techniques for Analyzing Tsunami Simulations in Hazard Assessment and Forecasting Applications

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract A wide selection of linear and non‐linear dimensionality reduction techniques is evaluated on synthetic tsunami data that is the basis for tsunami hazard assessment and computational forecasting. The data were computed from earthquake rupture forecasts (ERFs) supplying initial generation conditions and a linear long‐wave Green's function ...

Variability in Fecundity–Body Size Relationships for Atlantic Salmon Associated With Body Condition and Life History

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, Volume 33, Issue 5, Page 1002-1017, October 2026.
ABSTRACT While body size is the primary driver of fecundity, other factors may contribute to variation in these relationships. Anadromous populations of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) have diverse life histories, and fisheries management relies on accurate fecundity estimates.

On the maximum likelihood degree of Gaussian graphical models

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract In this paper we revisit the likelihood geometry of Gaussian graphical models. We give a detailed proof that the ML‐degree behaves monotonically on induced subgraphs. Furthermore, we complete a missing argument that the ML‐degree of the nth$n{\rm th}$ cycle is larger than 1 for any n⩾4$n\geqslant 4$, therefore completing the characterization ...

Source‐Unbiased Subsurface Monitoring With Seismic Noise

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract This study addresses a key limitation of seismic noise interferometry for subsurface monitoring: the impact of non‐stationary sources on seismic velocity change estimates. Conventional methods rely on time‐period references, which can inherit source‐related effects when source conditions vary, biasing the estimated velocity changes.

Fractional Moment Theory for Anomalous Transport: A Unified Framework for Lévy Flights, Fractals, and Complex Dynamical Systems

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, Volume 49, Issue 13, Page 14964-15009, 15 September 2026.
ABSTRACT We develop a unified mathematical framework extending classical moment theory from discrete integer orders to a continuous spectrum of real orders f>0$$ f>0 $$, providing a systematic statistical characterization of complex systems exhibiting power‐law behavior.
