Ringing phenomenon of the fiber ring resonator
Applied Optics, 2007A resonator fiber-optic gyro (R-FOG) is a high-accuracy inertial rotation sensor based on the Sagnac effect. A fiber ring resonator is the core sensing element in the R-FOG. When the frequency of the fiber ring resonator input laser is swept linearly with time, ringing of the output resonance curve is observed.

All-fiber ring resonators using ultra low loss directional couplers have been fabricated with finesse as high as 500. Resonator finesse is no longer limited by coupler loss and can be increased by lowering fiber loop loss. New polarization effects in the resonator have been observed indicating polarization dependent coupling in the directional coupler.

A ring resonator composed of a plasmonic waveguide is presented. For the plasmonic waveguide, an array of silver nanorods is assumed. To determine the modes of this ring resonator, the generalized multipole technique (GMT) is used. Using this analysis, we obtain various modes of the proposed ring resonator.

We report on our study of a temperature response of ring resonator based sensors and their interchangeability over a wide temperature range. Our results suggest that with a proper fabrication process control the interchangeability in photonic thermometers can be on a 0.2 °C tolerance band.

Photonic Crystal Ring Resonators and Ring Resonator Circuits
2010We present the characteristics and applications of photonic crystal ring resonators (PCRR). Photonic crystal confinement can achieve very high cavity quality factor ring resonators. Diffraction-limited ultra-compact PCRRs are feasible due to the absence of size-dependent losses.

This work presents the investigation of the interplay between two different types of losses in plasmonic ring resonators: i) the losses associated with the finite curvature radius and ii) the ohmic losses associated with the penetration of the electromagnetic fields inside the metal.

The ring cavity gives flexibility in resonator design, such as ability to incorporate long collimated beam sections with large beam diameters in order to extract power from large volumes of laser media. Particular attention is paid to the non–planar ring resonator because of its novel features and importance in recent applications in the ring laser ...

Integrated Non Reciprocal Ring Resonators
Advanced Materials Research, 2011We present the theoretical concept of an optical isolator based on a resonance splitting in a silicon ring resonators covered by a magneto-optical polymer cladding. A polymer magneto optical cladding causing a 0.01 amplitude of the off-diagonal element of the dielectric tensor is assumed.
