Investigation on shear behavior of soft interlayers by ring shear tests

Engineering Geology, 2019
Abstract Most soft interlayers tend to be key factors affecting rock slope stability due to their low strengths. A series of ring shear tests is conducted on reconstituted overconsolidated soft interlayers to investigate the influences of remolded water content and normal stress on shear behavior under drained conditions.

Round robin test on ring shear testers

Advanced Powder Technology, 2011
Abstract In 2008 a round robin project on ring shear testers was initiated in order to determine a range of results for a defined bulk solid (limestone powder CRM-116), similar to a round robin project with Jenike shear testers carried out in the 1980s. All users of automatic ring shear testers RST-XS or RST-01.pc were invited to take part.

Shear zone structures and stress fluctuations in large ring shear tests

Engineering Geology, 2013
Abstract Large ring shear tests are carried out in order to investigate the naturally drained shear behavior of slip zone soils of three giant landslides in the Three Gorges Project area. Twenty-seven specimens are sheared at three shearing rates (0.1, 1 and 10 mm/s).

Residual shear strength of unsaturated soils via suction-controlled ring shear testing

Engineering Geology, 2014
Abstract Results from a comprehensive series of suction-controlled ring shear tests, conducted on statically compacted specimens of silty clayey sand and silty sand, are presented. The experiments were accomplished in a newly developed servo/suction-controlled ring shear apparatus suitable for testing unsaturated soils under large deformations and ...

Bromhead Ring Shear Test Procedure

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1992
Abstract Existing test procedures and a proposed modification for the Bromhead ring shear apparatus were found to yield drained residual strengths higher than values back-calculated from field case histories. A new test procedure is presented that yields drained residual strengths that are in excellent agreement with field case histories.

Effect of Testing Procedure in Ring Shear Tests

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1988
Abstract This technical note describes a comparison between the results obtained from single-stage and multistage ring shear tests on two different types of normally consolidated clay. The results confirm the brittle behavior of normally consolidated soils containing a high proportion of clay particles and the curved nature of the ...

Shear and viscous characteristics of gravels in ring shear tests

Geosciences Journal, 2017
The shear and viscous characteristics of a material are strongly dependent on the material’s properties, such as cementation, density and grain size distribution, as well as the testing conditions, such as drainage and shearing speed. More complex shear behaviors can occur when the tested materials have diverse grain sizes.
