Photometry and polarimetry of Saturn's rings from Pioneer Saturn

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1980
We present a profile of the average normal optical depth for Saturn's rings between 1.22 and 2.35 Rs. In the A and B rings, horizontal inhomogeneities make these values deceptive. A thinner component of the B ring with optical depth less than 0.08 covers ½% to 4% of its surface area. In the A ring the more transparent component has optical depth τs >

The Rings of Saturn (1995)

2018
In this chapter, Schütte considers The Rings of Saturn as Sebald’s masterpiece. He presents the book as much more than a portrayal of Suffolk and its environs, instead a work that freely crosses genres such as autobiography, biography, travelogue and meditative essay. It explores many of Sebald’s literary preoccupations including human’s natural history

The E-ring of Saturn

International Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1984
AbstractThe origin of the E-ring of Saturn and its relationship to Enceladus is a well known problem. Rather than assuming that the ring was formed as a result of one big impact long ago or that it is a consequence of ejection of subcrustal water by tidally induced stresses and cracks of the satellite, it is proposed that the ring is formed as a ...

Theoretical profile of Saturn's rings

Earth, Moon, and Planets, 1984
Steady-state solutions for the optical thickness of Saturn's rings are studied in terms of Hameen-Anttila's (1983) theory of bimodal gravitating systems. The elastic properties of particles determine the behaviour of the rarefied mode (gaps), while the dense mode (ringlets) depends on the size and the internal density of the particles.

The Shape of Saturn’s Rings

1984
Kovalevskaya’s paper (1885b) on the shape of Saturn’s rings was written while she was working with Weierstrass, but quite likely on her own initiative, since Weierstrass does not seem to have touched on the topic in either his published work or in his lectures.
