Riparian Vegetation of the Lower Rio Grande
The riparian vegetation of the lower reach of the Rio Grande was studied at 7 locations using 3 line intercepts at each location. There were no trees at the mouth of the river and the vegetation was similar to that found along the Laguna Madre shore of barrier islands.

Participatory mapping and Nature's Contributions to People: Insights from the Amazon Delta
Abstract Understanding how traditional and coastal communities perceive and interact with nature is key to promoting inclusive conservation. This article examines human–nature interaction in the fishing village of Jubim, located in the Marajó Archipelago, delta of the Amazon River, Brazil.

Sotol (Dasylirion spp.) is a resilient desert plant that sustains ecosystems, cultures and livelihoods in Chihuahua Desert. Our review highlights its nutritional properties, traditional uses and potential new applications in food, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy and water remediation. By synthesizing evidence across disciplines, we show how sotol can

Flowers can communicate reproductive status to pollinators through visual cues. In Saxifraga fortunei, pistils often changed from yellow to red after pollination, and hoverflies and honeybees preferentially visited flowers with yellow pistils. This pattern suggests that a post‐pollination color shift confined to the pistil can reduce revisits to ...

SIMULATION OF VEGETATION GROWTH IN RIPARIAN ECOSYSTEMS
Land between agricultural production areas and streams can be important for mitigating pollutants reaching water supplies. However, there is little information available on management for effective control of upland runoff of sediment, nutrients, and pesticides.

Invasion legacy effects versus sediment deposition as drivers of riparian vegetation [PDF]
Riparian zones are formed by interactions between fluvio-geomorphological processes, such as sediment deposition, and biota, such as vegetation. Establishment of invasive alien plant (IAP) species along rivers may influence vegetation dynamics, evidenced
