ABSTRACT School‐based participatory science (SBPS) connects school science with authentic research practices; however, adoption in formal schooling depends on how teachers interpret SBPS and appraise its feasibility under institutional constraints.

How Do Homebuyers Value Different Types of Green Space? [PDF]
It is important to understand tradeoffs in preferences for natural and constructed green space in semi-arid urban areas because these lands compete for scarce water resources.

ABSTRACT Colorado's geologic, pedologic, topographic, hydrological, and climatic contrasts create strong but under‐synthesized opportunities for sustainable agritourism. This review investigates how geodiversity, and the broader environmental heterogeneity within which it operates, can be used to diversify farm income, strengthen place‐based visitor ...

Effects of dispersal and geomorphology on riparian seed banks and vegetation in a boreal stream
Question Riparian vegetation and seed banks are the foundation of functional riparian zones, yet insight in the processes that explain their composition is limited. We tested three theories fundamental to dispersal and environmental filtering of riparian

Urban greenspaces are a haven for wildlife in densely populated cities. Wildlife use greenspaces for resource acquisition, shelter, and travel across urbanized landscapes. Greenspace metrics such as herbaceous or woody landcover, size, patchiness, and human land use influence species richness.

We used automated behavioral response systems (ABRs) to assess invasive wild pig (Sus scrofa) behavioral response to four auditory playbacks: humans, coyote vocalizations (Canis latrans), pigs in distress, and barred owl (Strix varia) calls. Wild pigs had a significant flight response to human playbacks, but 68% of pigs did not flee.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Functional traits are expected to predict vital rates and performance outcomes because they mediate how organisms interact with the environment. However, trait‐based models often have poor predictive power for tree species survival and growth.

Biodiversity effects on ecosystem functioning are driven by resource quality and contamination
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Biodiversity–ecosystem functioning relationships are increasingly explained by species' traits and resource quality differences rather than richness alone, yet cross‐trophic effects and environmental context remain poorly resolved.
